Happy Xmas Taffers
Please note this is not a body awareness/animation issue
I am now running an 7900GT (previously had a pair of 7800 GT's SLI and an X1800XT) So far I have found that Ati cards are better at running T3, nut there is nothing like brute force (7900-Oc) to get T3 running smoothly so far im playing at 1024x768, 2xQ-AA, 8xAniso.
Can you list what settings give you the smoothest gameplay @ 1024x768 or above. While stood still, look around - non of the edges of the architecture should jitter/shimer/stutter/etc.
# In garrets apartment look down at the floor in front of the fire while side stepping.
# Stand still under some beams near the fruit and veg seller, while looking up, look from left to right.
Here is a comparison on between T3 and some other well known games on my system:-
Fear: 1280x1024 All details high, 4xAA 16xAniso - 100% fluid
Quake4: 1280x1024 All details high, 4xAA 16xAniso - 100% fluid
Doom3: 1280x1024 All details high, 4xAA 16xAniso - 100% fluid
Far Cry: 1280x1024 All details high, 4xAA 16xAniso - 100% fluid
HL2: 1280x1024, All detail High, 4xAA, 16xAniso - 100% fluid
T3: 1024x768, All details High, 2xQ-AA, 8xAniso - 100% fluid
T2: 1280x1024, All detail High, 2xQ-AA, 8xAniso - 100% fluid
Please list your system specs (like mine) below:
CPU = Core Duo-E6600@2.4Ghz
Graphics card = 7900GT-256@675/1910
Memory = 1GB Crucial Ballistix@DDR2-1000
Mobo = ASUS P5N
Average Fps = 80+
3DMark06 = 6500+
Update:
Using the thread as a guide we see the following:
X300 20fps
G5500FX 20fps
R9200 25fps
6800u 25fps
R9700 30fps
R9800 40fps
X800GT 45fps
X800XT 50fps
7800GT 50fps
X1800XT 60fps
X1900XTX 70fps
7800GT_SLI 70FPS
7900GT 75fps
7900GTX 80fps
8800GTS 100fps...? (epithumia has one of these I think..)
8800GTX 120fps...?
Best bang for buck ratio:
The best budget card is the 9800pro :thumb:
The best mid range card is the X1800XT :thumb:

I'm running a lovely RADEON 9200, and it runs Thief 3 at about 25fps, with occasional dips towards 10fps. I can't play any Thief 3 fms though, because my video card can't handle them.
As you mention though, other games with more powerful engines, like DOOM 3, run much, much better then Thief 3, even with my lower video card. With Thief 3 I need to put everything as low as possible to get a decent frame rate. With DOOM 3, I can run it with medium settings and still get a great frame rate.

Bikerdude, clearly you have more money than sense.
A pair of 7800GTs... and you're upgrading?? :weird:
Okay, for starters, that is EASY powerful enough to run TDS at maxed-out settings. It's pretty obviously not a problem with your hardware. I'd be looking towards software solutions before I pissed away money on an unncessary hardware upgrade that might not even work anyway.

Just got the wife a new machine and the radeon card in it is about on par with my G6200. But the difference in processor speed 1.6 vs. 3.0 plus the 800mhz fbs on the new machine makes all the difference in the world. T3 runs great on the new one like a dog on the old one. With my 1.6 I don't think there is a card avaliable that could take up the slack.

Processor. I saw HUGE increases in performance after upgrading my processor from a 2500+ to a 3400+. Almost double (9800 PRO btw). I get 40+ FPS and no hitching/stuttering on that rig. Sounds like you have some sort of issue.

I just figured I'd fire up Fraps to see what I was running, since I've ever never bothered to check it out.
I averaged 57 FPS with max settings in T3 including the dreaded Vsync, at 1600 x 1200 and with all of John P's texture patches up and running.
I certainly can't complain. :thumb:

Evening taffers
I have just bought another 7800GT to compliment my exsisting 7800GT, but even with all that GPU power T3 still aint silky smooth - like Doom3 and HL2.
Biker
On a side note, lemme know if you seem to run in to any problems with you've SLI-enabled your 7800GT's.
For whatever reason, whenever I'm enabled and I try to save my game, my graphics go glitchy on me, almost like Garret's on some serious hardcore drugs. I usually find myself having to try to quicksave again to remedy the problem. Granted that's always hit and miss.

I currently have a cooked 9600XT(the fan on it died and my PC has been unstable ever since)
It ran T3 well with low settings...
Just ordered a new PC to replace my current 1
AMD 4200 X2
2 gig RAM
7900GT
It should do me for another 3 years like the last one...

Is that a sextuple post? Blimey.
Dude, it's not your hardware that's stopping you from enjoying the game.

And as for the thread, I'm using a 7800GT with an Athlon X2 3800 and 2GB of RAM and I'm seeing a frame rate averaging 45 at 1280x1024 with bloom and 2x forced-antialising.
