I guess she refered more to the glyphs to come back than to the people (Keepers? Enforcers?) surrounding her to step back.

She's telling the Keepers to get away, really. Even if she's calling the glyph back, it'd for defense against the encroaching Keepers. The glyph she's drawing is the same as the one that was thrown at her, which she caught, when her true form was revealed. The Order is dispersed. The Keepers' society is destroyed. The people, however, remain to do what they are able. They may stay banded together, but they can only do what they don't need the Glyphs to aid them with.
They have never been Keepers of the Glyphs. Ever.
They are Keepers of the Balance. The BALANCE. Garrett kept the balance by removing the corrupt Keepers from power. Garrett NEVER displayed an ability to use glyphs that weren't granted to him first by others. Although before TDS, that was my excuse for his ability to stand in a wedge of shadow, lean forward into the light and not be seen.:p In TDS we see him get permission, and we see the ability taken away. With the heavy emphasis on the nature of the Glyphs, and the complete destruction of the glyphs--which required 5 sentient Artifacts, placed in proper order--I have to believe at this point that only artifacts of some kind can bring the Glyphs back. Especially if the new artifacts are not made with or by Glyph magic. They are gone, completely, unless you want to say that any symbol is a Glyph, then I think the point is missed. A drawn shape is not enough. A scar doesn't mean "Glyph", and it can merely be a mark like any other. It may represent his access to the means of restoring Glyph magic to the world. He may never know, himself, how to do it, thus Keeping the Balance perfectly.
I understand desiring the Glyph magic to return or remain, but the story says otherwise. The Keepers have lost their way, so utterly, that the failsafe was activated. The Keepers have been stripped of their advantages, thrown naked into the world, bereft of everything that mattered to them, and the veil of their secrecy has been torn away, exposing them for all to see. That's powerful, dangerous, and thrilling. The future cannot be imagined well, so players want to reverse what has happened and make it less dangerous, powerful, and thrilling.

I have a few questions to slip in here while my brain struggles to examine and question all that has been presented.
First, do the artifacts retain the ability to speak after the final glyph is activated? Were glyphs what enabled them to speak in the first place? As for those who couldn't speak (well, I think those were the Paw and Chalice), was that ability never available to them because of their place deep within the protected forts of the Pagans and Hammerites? It would make sense, as the other artifacts seem to enjoy the presence of other humans.

According to the quotes I posted above, the Sentients are destroyed when the Final Glyph is activated, which I take to mean the Artifacts lose some significant ability or trait. The Eye says the Keepers made a pact with the Artifacts for the destined purpose of the failsafe, and Keeper Albrech says five Keepers made some kind of sacrifice--believed to be death of the flesh to bind their soul to the Artifacts, or something else extreme and permanent, especially since the Artifacts do demonstrate bloodlust, so a blood sacrifice or loss of life is likely. The Eye says the ability to speak comes with time. The Heart has come the closest to speaking, and was even given lines, though they aren't used. They go where they will, and the Heart and Eye are malicious, taking pleasure in messing with people's minds, or leading them to their deaths.

Actually, she was drawing a door glyph to try and escape. But it dissipated as she drew it.

Okay, maybe.

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/2641/gamallsdefeatcs3.pngWe've never seen the door glyph used on air before, though. It's also a complicated glyph to draw and she's off to a rough start. But the centuries old glyph queen's world has been shattered, so I can't blame her.:p
But yeah....

Well, it was a good run :ebil:
This stuff is still bubbling over in my head; I wonder if they might try to incorporate it into Thief 4 (which, judging by Eidos's silence since April-May, does not exist).
