I was kidding. I should have added a smiley to that post.

It's fine. Adding a smiley would be laughing out loud before you're finished to tell the joke. Uh, in a text-based way.
For some reason I don't really believe the sword wohl loose its magic after Constantine's death. The fact he has it does not mean he created it and even if he did - must he necessarily be around for it to work? Viktoria lives on without him as do all the forest's beast, the plants and magical portals.
So Garrett might either have lost it (which doesn't fit him) or given it away, presumably for money. Actually I prefer this last - and first - explanation. We know he is short on money when the Metal Age begins. Go, Ockham!
... We also know that he likes to wear what sounds like tap dance shoes all the time, so I guess we can be happy he did not replace the shadowdark blade with a lightsabre.

:laff: :laff: :laff:
awww, that's a good one! Ha!
I could just see that in T2 - "Damn flares! <mumble mumble> Never stay lit longe enough . . . <*brrruuvvvvv*> Ah, much better! Oh, look at that thick steel door I don't have a key for . . . "

I don't understand why people keep clinging to this foolish idea of tapdancing shoes.
In real life, a well trained guard could hear the slightest footstep. Garrett's footsteps in Thief are simply amplified so that the player can hear them clearly, to tell how much noise he is making. If the footsteps were the normal volume, and guards would suddenly hear Garrett by a faint footstep that the player could barely hear, it would simply frustrate and confuse the player.

Real Ninjas could sneak on even the bestest of bestest guard, tapdancing, and the guard wouldn't hear a thing.

That's how it works in the game. You creep along 1/100 of an inch at a time with hours of waiting between each tiny movement, and suddenly a guard goes "What's that noise? I hear you, taffer!"
And just for the sake of being a pain:
"slightest footstep" How do you define that? If I sneak along silently, there would not be anything to hear.
Add to that background noise (even if just crickets) and the fact that a guard will not be on 100% alertness at all times; even the best ones.
Oh god, I've gone off-topic... I will go and drown myself in whisky

It's mostly the sound made in the first two games when you walk on tile that gets the tap shoes tag. Anything besides nailed wooden soles or tap shoes would make about the same sound on tile as you get walking on stone. So I guess we can speculate on what Garrett's shoes are actually made of now.

Well...[Beleg Cutty's History Lesson]a lot of shoes in the middle ages (late middle ages included, which is, apart from Renaissance, closest to Thief's weapons and armour) were sewn inside out, so the seam would be on the inside and not on the ground. With respect to that they could not use too thick leather, so I guess these shoes must have been perfect for sneaking. Especially after Lord of the Rings people have to get away from the idea that everyone at that time wore boots (...which, in fact, may have a hard sole that sounds like a stiletto).[/Beleg Cutty's History Lesson] :p
This is about The Sword anyway, isn't it?
