I wonder, what reasons made Looking Glass Studio shut down, with title such as Thief, I thought they would have done rather well.

Oh bother. I had a possible answer typed up for you, Romeo but my log-in cookie expired. Basically however, I summed up different parts of these two articles:
(
http://archive.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/20/dark_glass/index.html)
(
http://www.fourfatchicks.com/Reviews/Thief_Retro/Part_1.shtml)
The most pertinent of the two is the former, the latter contains some information on the subject, but primarily is a melancholy reverie and recollection. I should add however, that it is also a very important and touching article that any Thief lover should read.
Edit:
To answer the initial question asked - why no one edits Thief 3 - is probably because most people don't seem the like Thief 3 - which mystifies me, I loved it as much as the other Thief games. Thief 1 and 2 seem to have a special place in the hearts of Thief fans. I tried both DromEd and T3Ed, and I found DromEd to be far more archaic, complex, and frustrating. Though admittedly, my only interest T3Ed was map making. I didn't bother trying to import any of my models. The ones they have already are good enough, IMO.
