I was playing Quake2 in a sniper/sneaky mode and a friend said, "You should try Thief, it's made for that kind of play."

Does Cowering in the corner cradling your rifle count as
sniper/stealth mode? :cheeky:

I bought my copy of System Shock 2 from some internet-auction site. And the only one they had on offer was bundled with a thief... So I got it for free.
And we need more of these votes:

I found a warez copy of it and the name "The dark project" intrigued me. At first I thought this was an hacked alpha game I accidently found but I immediately liked the concept.
assuming that you bought a legal copy later, or at least a Thief 2 or 3.

I remember the now defunct excellent gaming magazine, Next Generation, doing a story on Half Life. It was THE huge hit of that holiday season. Anyhoo...the article said, "If you can only buy 1 game this year, it should probably be Half Life. If you can buy 2, the other should be Thief TDP".
So, I bought both! Thought Half Life was fantastic but, I didn't play through it several times like I did Thief. Just such an incredibly atmospheric, and original experience.
Thief: The Original First Person Sneaker.
Been a fan, and a lurker in these forums, ever since. :thumb:

(Remember how you felt when the first zombie stood and moaned at you in Cragscleft?)
Scared the hell out me. I had played T2 already, but there wasn't a lot of zombies there and they didn't look like the half rotted, no jaw or waist kind of Cragscleft. *shudder*

I not only bought one (of each) I have several of them. At least two copies I'm sure, but it may be more. :)
Usually I download games, and if I like them I buy them. I just don't trust/like demos, and I don't want to get another game where I'm totally dissapointed. I also got a copy of Painkiller, and the next day I went in the store and bought it as well. Atmosphericwise, this is one of the best games (apart from Thief of course ;) ).

A combination of the architectural aesthetic, setting and general devious play-style.
I'd *heard* about the game long before I played it, but never thought that it'd appeal to me - I mean, elemental arrows? Sounds stupid, thought I.
Then I moved to Toronto, and sat down at my roommate's computer - he'd just started playing Thief 2, and ... well, I decided to give it a whirl.
I took to sneaking right off, and ended up playing through long before he got back around to it.
I've been playing ever since.

LOL! That Zombie was really good. Just lying there, and I didn't knew what it was. Suddenly it jumped up when I passed by. Wow! That really gave me heart attack. And since I was used to shooters, I started to hack it away, which was successfull after a short time. And suddenly it stood up again. My first contact with zombies and it was really a nice (and frightfull) experience. :)
