I mean everything, including those things we are able to do in previous games, like swimming. Would it be possible? Would it make DS the sequel Thief always deserved? I actually don't know much about the story, but I know the ending is pretty good and probably a lot of other stuff too. But briefings and cutscenes are ugly, even if they somewhat capture the essence of the originals. They just show too much.
What do you think?

I see no NewDark limitation that would prevent this from happening, and yeah, I would play it. heck, even a Dark Mod version would be a vast improvement, but redoing the vanilla games seems to be looked down upon in the DM community for whatever reason.
also, funnily enough, NewDark is probably more compatible and easier to work with right now, as the UE version DS uses is on its last legs.

I could be wrong, but isn't the reason why nobody does a Dark Mod remake of original missions because of some copyright laws?

Yes, the TDM team from the very beginning made it a point not to do anything that could be remotely construed as violation of Eidos' intellectual property, so everything in it is merely "inspired by" Thief and its IP. Any project to remake any Thief IP in TDM would certainly be forbidden and unsanctioned by the TDM team and community.

as mentioned a few times before, a company can sue anyone for anything (fan missions, a community patcher, the no spider mod, whatever) and win, should they decide to do so. but generally, as long as your patcher/fan mission/alternate resource loader/whatever requires the original, legally purchased game to function, they'll let you be.
so as long as the hypothetical Dark Thief3 installer asks for TDS resources during the install process and refuses to continue unless provided, you should be ok.

I would love to see TDS remade in New Dark and experience the Deadly Shadows missions in the original Thief Engine.

Since NewDark supports .ogg format for sound files, you could actually just point to their TDS install folder for all sound resources and fulfill this requirement.

This has been done elsewhere. Hasn't Half-Life been remade in the Source engine by fans. Think you can get it on Steam?
Also seem to recall HL2 being remade in the Crysis engine, as another fan project.
And the co-op HL: Decay being ported to the PC as a single player game.
I don't know the legalities but think there is little precedent for legal bother if no money is being made or lost.
And yes I' too would love to see a T3-in-T2.

HL: Source was done by the Source people if memory serves, to demonstrate how easy it is to work with/port stuff into it. it's kind of beta, but still a good way of enjoying the original game, as it resolves a few major annoyances of the original engine. available on steam.
you are maybe thinking Black Mesa, which is a fan project intended to recreate HL1 in the HL2 engine, to basically tie it better with the second game. also purchasable on steam.
