Hi everyone!!:joke:
I am fairly new to this site:angel:, although I've been taffin around for a few months rather furtively. I first played Thief on my stepdads old computer when I was very young (about 9 or 10), that was about 15 years ago now. This past holiday season, I downloaded it from GoG, remembering how I was very fascinated by it as a kid, but found it rather difficult to understand. Well, after a single weekend, I had played through all the OM's. And a week later, all of T2+T2X...until finally, I discovered FMs and this site:cool:
Lord Bafford's manor being my favourite OM because of the nostalgia, I thought I'd look for something similar. Searching randomly, the first ever FM I played was Borrington's Castle (very short, quirky and rather pointless). So I consulted this site and was pleased to find the Phantoms list of Recommended Missions (this list is great btw:thumb:, thank you Phantom:cheeky:!)
After playing a dozen missions recommended in this list (and others online) Ominous Bequest stood out as the most immersive, rewarding and enjoyable mission I've ever had to pleasure to undertake, literally blowing every OM out of the water! Being a native french speaker, I also loved l'Arsene series by Gaetane (and all her other missions for that matter). Rowena's Curse was definitely an honourable mention as well.
Generally speaking, I prefer Hammerite church themed, intrigue/mystery style missions that require alot of thinking and resolve. And have an aversion to crypt/spook missions. So considering the bit of information I've provided, let me know what you think is the MUST play, cannot miss, next mission or series that I HAVE to play and why. Please also let me know your top 3 personal favourites:D
Thanks in advance!

Your top picks are also among mine, and if you liked Ominous Bequest that much you must play the sequel, (
http://thiefmissions.com/m/BrokenTriad#m) Broken Triad, if you didn't already. Also, you mentioned playing the L'Arsene series, so make sure that includes (
http://thiefmissions.com/m/BlackFrog#m) The Black Frog, which is like the sequel campaign. The other masterpiece you've not mentioned is (
http://thiefmissions.com/m/SevenSisters#m) The Seven Sisters by Lady Rowena.
As to your requested criteria, while I normally try not to recommend my own missions, (
http://thiefmissions.com/m/DrymianCodex#m) The Drymian Codex which I did last year with Random_Taffer and Tannar would seem to fit the bill nicely - it takes place in a Hammerite compound, with puzzles and a mystery to solve. It does have a crypt, but only a small part of it is haunted, and it's not that scary.

It does have a crypt, but . . . it's not that scary.
Really?

Returning a Favor is a nice Hammerite mission with a murder mystery.

Transitions in Chaos Part I by Ramirez' Old Fat Burrick is a great mission with mysteries to discover, if memory serves. Also Gathering at the Inn and Mission X by the CoSaS team - highly recommended! :thumb:
And also Hammered, which I believe won the 10 rooms contest, is a good, Hammerite-themed mission.

"Shadow Politics" is a really great mission to play. It's fun and theres quite a few places to explore with great architecture also :cheeky: It's definitely something I would recommend to any newcomer to FM's.
"Gellers Pride" is a nice city/mansion type mission and is also another great mission.
"The Varyx Obelisk" and "Heart And Soul" are two missions on the same story line (so basically a mini campaign) and they have very interesting architecture and have a great storyline too. The level design for these early missions is epic for such early FMs and I enjoyed it quite a lot and they're definitely in my Top 10 favorite missions :laff:
EDIT: Oops I thought that meant you liked undead, sorry :nono: I was just so caught up with myself! Grr now I'm embarrased
