The future of PC gaming is a mixture of Xbox, Wii, facebook and twitter. Let's do it guys!

Since it's gaming related, it doesn't really fit in the 'random youtube thread' either. Oh and what the hell.
I can't believe how dirty I feel after watching this. There will still be people to say "let them be" and criticise elitism, but if we can do anything to slow down casual-/platform-/monet-/achievment-/facebook-/isation, I think it's a good time to start discussing how.

That video is hilarious. The "best" part is the Xbox Live avatars playing Battlefield 2, trololololo.
Good luck MS, you've already lost the war. More and more publishers are backing Steamworks:- Zenimax, 2K Games, THQ, Sega.

Well, Steam does have more than passing resemblance to community portals already...

I... I don't understand what this video is showing. It's a bunch of avatars playing games. Umm... ok? That's the kind of stuff that happens on the daily basis already. So what is the point of the video? What is the "product" they are trying to create/sell? I'm genuinely confused by this.

So basically this 'WGE' is Xbox Live for Windows with 360 avatars and Facebook integration. In other words, they're making it the same as the 360 OS UI with a possible Steam-like frontend. What a step forward that is. I especially like the bit where 'buying things enhances my gaming and entertainment experience'. Shucks, really? Anything else you want to tell us? Perhaps, 'playing games is an entertaining diversion,' or, 'we want you to buy into this so we can microtransact you into oblivion when the time comes'.
So this is the 'future of PC Gaming', huh? Wii Miis on Facebook bolted onto a game delivery service. I'm not surprised at the amazing dearth of imagination, but that's what M$'s always been good at - rip off a good idea, make a couple tweaks to distinguish it as something 'new' and not just a clone, then throw wads of money at it until the market uptake hopefully begins to swing in its favour, then monopolise the shit out of the sector.
It's not going to be that easy. I hope Steam and Impulse and the rest knock the fucking snot out of them, just like Apple did with the Zune. (Though that's another monopoly that needs to see some immediate ass-kicking for the good of the mobile entertainment industry, but whatev.)
Kinect on desktops is a novel idea, just don't have me playing games on it though. Think of the possibilities -- I could waggle my right hand in a suggestive motion at the camera, and the desktop'd bring up my 'special videos' folder onto the screen and autoplay the latest one. Bored of it? Just ask it to bugger off or wave a hand at the screen.
Of course, the problems with an always-on camera and an always-on internet connection are rather obvious, right? Massive fucking security violation waiting to happen once the tech lands in the wrong hands, and it will. Last thing you'd want is a direct feed of whatever you were doing in front of the camera while watching those videos being piped to some anonymous location on the internet.

Ha I just found that today on the PC Gamer website. In their words:
"If you want to appeal to gamers, you should probably spell 'pwn' right."

"i can spend my money as I see fit!"
...... this is like the guy at the bank who approves your loan for a car and gives you an extra $10,000 and says, " and this is for a little extra so you can have some fun and do what you want"

The beauty of the pc as a platform is that no one decides what you should do on it, so who are people to decide that casual gamers can't have their stuff on pc?
The future of pc gaming has proven to be steam and an abundance of self-publishing indie games.
