Okay, so the opening notes of (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb-3eBlv_qE) Earth's "Old Black"- specifically, up until after the fourth drumbeat- are triggering memories of some other song from somewhere back in my long music-listening history, but I have no fucking clue what, and it's been driving me crazy. I've been going through my entire collection and I can't find the song in question. I've tried everything, even went and listened to Danzig's "Going Down to Die" (which wasn't it) and nothing fits.
So I call upon TTLG for aid. I'm that desperate. Help. What the fuck song is this making me think of?

How many seconds in does the familiar part go?
Is it maybe reminding you of "Comfortably Numb"?
That or something from a spaghetti western or the Doors...

I don't know, but it sounds pretty cool.

Definitely Comfortably Numb or at least some form of Floydishness behaviour going on in there.
However Sufjan Stevens was playing banjo in my kitchen at the time (as it were) so probably needs another listen.

On Demon Wings by Bohren and Der Club of Gore.
No question.

And if you haven't heard/listened to them - why not? That song really gets going about 1.15 in. I love Der Club of Gore!

You're the second person I've ever known who has ever heard of that artist, the other being the person who originally linked me to one of the songs. I really like "Vigilante Crusade," but most of them aren't my kind of thing. "Vigilante Crusade" has less of a jazz sound and more of a, um, ambient sound, I guess, which is why I like it.

any drone/funeral doom song ever?
But more seriously, it reminds me of something too - I could have sworn it was callisto but I went through their discography and couldn't find that specific tune. If you manage to find it I'm interested.
