Every topic I make ends up as a showdown involving Koki, dethtoll and/or CCCtoad. Sigh.
But I appreciate everyone sharing - it's strangely inspiring for me. I'm just terrified of the world of stable, narrowly-focused business jobs, even as I'm in the late stages of an interview process for one (if I get it, I'll post it here!).

You're not special, we do that in every thread.

Good luck, what type of job are you applying for?

Hang in there, Aerothorn.
You'll know if it's for you after a few months in the job if you get it. And if it's not well, then you've got several months worth of experience behind you to help you with another.

Forgive me, you had asked a question.

RBJ: Why was the sojourn ill-advised?
It's really tough to get into all of the details, but most of them revolve around the culture of the company I joined. It was very data driven, and they were looking more for "cogs" than actual thinkers. Not an environment suited to my strengths, and especially bad since my direct supervisor was dumb as a post. My departure was, well, interesting. PM me for details if you want the full story.
This experience is part of the reason I didn't jump back into the first job I could find, and waited for something that I knew was a good fit. Not everyone has that luxury, and I would likely have had to settle if I had waited much longer.
But the reality is that my marketable skills as an attorney pay exponentially more than my experience as an entry level writer. Even as a writer in a technical area that I was uniquely qualified for paid only half what I can earn as an attorney. It's the very definition of Golden Handcuffs.

Do. As for the rest of your post, I do know what you mean about organizations and the idiots who end up in managerial positions.
I resigned from my position with a Fire Department for close to the same reason. The Chief was a political animal and set up situations to foster his position at the risk of causing his officers to kill the fire-fighters by following his Terms of Engagement.
Good luck with the writing and with the current, satisfying, I hope, position. :thumb:

We voted them into the position. So it's our fault the government is a failing corporation. :ebil:
