What is your opinion, what is THE hardest level in Thief 1 & 2? At any level. - by Nefarius

In TG, Thieves' Guild. Well, it seemed the longest anyway. In TMA, either Kidnapping (had a difficult time finding the High Priest) or Soulforge.

I found Thieves Guild to be the most difficult mission (on Expert) It's large and has a very confusing layout, but the real kicker was the loot objective, which very nearly drove me insane the first time I tried it.
Soulforge is pretty difficult on Expert too, but that's more a test of endurance than of skill.
Easiest mission, well, most of the early missions in both games are easy, especially on Normal. I'm tempted to give it to Escape! though, as on Normal you can abandon subtlety and just run.

In Kidnap you purloin Cavador, not the High Priest (
Escape!).;)
Argh sorry, my bad. It's been a while since I played TMA...

I'd say that "Casing the Joint" in TMA was the most difficult, because the whole time I was POed :grr: knowing I would have to come back and do the same map all over again the next night. :nono:
It was like "Framed" (which I thought was a needlessly complicated plan) taken to a new level of needless complication. :eww:

As I said earlier. If you try Expert and ghosting the TMA demo Unwanted Guest, it easily is the most difficulty.
The sensitivity of the AI is tweaked to the max. The guard at The Shemanov's can hear you, if you make the slightest sound, as you sneak past The Wiley Estate and will go to initial alert ("What's that?" etc. ).
A full building and street away from where he patrols.

The most challenging thief level, any difficulty, would easily be "Thieves' Guild" from Thief: Gold. Not only is the map exceptionally complex, but the guards are very tough. Most anyone around here spent many hours trying to beat it first time out.
"The Bank" from T2 is a very close second.

Having only just completed Masks and not played TDP yet, my limited (until I complete them both) observation is that the guards on the third floor of Gervasius' mansion are extremely alert. I had three of them alerted just by slow crouch walking in the dark.

Masks would've been SOOO much better had we not just done the exact same map right before it (Casing the Joint). Shame they set it up like that.

They seemed like that to me as well. That's why I bypassed all of 'em by using the beams in the ceiling.
I agree... it would've been better to not have done the same level twice. Seemed like a cheap way to make the game longer to me, though having stuff moved around and whatnot was a slight step in the right direction.

:erm: I meant Casing the Joint not masks, oops.
Yes, the beams made it a lot, lot easier.
