What is your opinion, what is THE hardest level in Thief 1 & 2? At any level. - by Nefarius

I think every mission is particular ! . .
Yes, Sabotage at Soulforge was very... particular :)

In TG, I thought the Thieves' Guild and The Sword were the hardest. The Thieves' Guild is large and labyrinthine, and I got utterly lost. The guards in The Sword were extremely jumpy, on the ground floor especially.
In T2, it would be the Bank. I hear that the camera/guard layout is somewhat randomised, and maybe I just got a rather tricky one on my first time round, but there was one room that was practically impossible to get through. I can't remember how I did it, but I don't think I'll be iron-manning that level in the forseeable future. I also found Kidnap hard in places, though fortunately not in mission-critical areas.

Having just completed Thief 2, I'd have to say without doubt, that soulforge is the most annoyingly frustrating map. On the other levels, there's usually just one or two bots, so you can easily disable them without drawing any attention. Soulforge however, is a different matter entirely. Couple that with the ridiculous map size and the constant running back and forth and you get one long, hard map.
I don't see what all the fuss is about with bank to be honest. Difficult yes, but not that difficult.

There isn't that much running back and forth once you know your way around Soulforge. You have to backtrack a bit once you get the plans but after that it's just running from transmitter to transmitter.
My vote is for Bonehoard. Mostly because I like to kill/disable every "guard" that poses a threat to me. The problem with this in Bonehoard is that there are an army of undead in that level and a limited number of zombie killing devices. The constantly active magical shot trap is handy though as you can just lead zombies to it and kill them for free.

Since I've never played the T2 demo, I'd have to say that in terms of difficulty the Bank was probably number one for me. Huge map, noisy floors, bots, ick. In terms of exasperation, Soulforge. I still freaking hate that mission.
It's been a while since I played TDP, and I never played TG, but I remember the mission after Garrett loses his eye being a bitch. Can't remember the name at the moment. And of course, RTTHC. Mostly because of Brother Murus being the annoying little bastidge he is.
As for fanmissions... The Elevator Missions (at least the first time you play them) get my vote. Cuz, damn. Dayummmmm.:eww:

I agree with the Thief's Guilde-nominators, although 'hard' is not the word I would use. It was just a tricky but boring pathfinding. RTC was for me the hardest.

For Thief 1, this is an easy one. Return to the Cathedral, because it is scary as heck, and that makes doing things 10 times harder. Especially dodging zombie patrol routes and picking a tough lock sitting in plain sight (in the middle of all the zombie patrol routes!) to get that stupid rosary. Or ousting all of the haunts. I get goosebumps just thinking about that level. Nothing I have played in any game - even the nightmare hospital in silent hill 1 - is as scary as Return to the Cathedral.
For Thief 2, a little tougher, because, in fact, none of them are all that hard, even on expert. Big and pretty, yes, and many are quite fun, but most lack in difficulty. I would probably go for either of the two that take place in the same mansion near the end, Casing the Joint and Masks(?)just because getting the masks is tricky and meeting the loot requirements requires you to risk being seen, bigtime. Still nowhere near Return to the Cathedral.

Played & completed T2 only, and my nightmare is undoubtedly Sabotage at Soulforge. There's just too many damn Mechs for how few mines & water arrows I have. And I find sneaking tough with all the metal / stone floors & these annoying cameras. Can't afford to Fire Arrow them either since it would bring an army on my head. Manufacturing extra mines helped me a lot, but GOD it's a pain in the butt. I think I spent 20 minutes or more going back and forth between the machine & the lever in Factory Bay D ( it just did not want to do several a once ). The map is huge and just plain annoying to play from start to finish. Big disappointment, but I'll forgive LG since every single map before that is pure gold.
The bank was fairly tough first time, but ( unlike Soulforge ) it was good fun! The bank is the map that taught me just how useful Moss Arrows can be, and also showed me the fun of lowering an elevator on someone's head.

You
reallly need to play TDS Cradle. RTC only scared me the first time. Cradle still gets to me every time.
