I didn't read through the whole thread to see if anyone mentioned this but did anyone see a movie from '79 called The Black Hole? If you remember what happened to the crew in that i think it's very similar to the servants. Basically humans labotomized into droids. Or maybe i'm just blowin' smoke outta my ass.

I'll answer you with another question: why the zombies doesn't receive any damage when blackjacked?

Interesting thing!! I was just searching for some cyberpunk films, and here it is. I guess I will see it.

Because they don't rely on or use their brains; they are controlled by dark magic/natural energy/possessing spirit/take your pick, in the same way as a puppet. You can't "kill" a puppet, because it's not alive, only "cut the strings" with fire/bright light/holy magic.

If you are going to use your brain, you are definitively alive, it's a medical definition.

If we have to compare the Servants and the undead, I'd rather compare the Servants to the Haunts. Simply for the fact that the Haunts seem to be able to speak (that is, very likely to think as well). Maybe their ramblings are only parts of their former self "burned" into the corpse and are the only thing left from their former personality. But at least, there seems to be something left behind.
(Or it may be just demonic or whatever possession, but we don't know).
But the Servants appear -at least to me, and how they are described in-game- to be able to interact (meaningfully - not just killing people) with their environment. And when left alone, they tend to cry and talk to themselves (like other living AI.
Also the need for a commanding voice seems to indicate that the recipient (Servant) is alive or at the very least has still the necessary brain functions to recognize the orders and fulfill them.
I just don't see how you could command a Haunt (or a zombie, for that matter) by fitting him with a Servant mask. Firstly, I don't think they have any brain tissue still working (or nerves), and secondly, I don't see them obeying word commands - I don't even think you could coerce them by force.
Just to be clear, I know that zombies or haunts go into search mode like any other AI - hand shielding their eyes, head looking right and left, but I don't think that this means they are actually "looking" or listening for you.
More likely the only reason they do this is because all AI uses the same model and just get dressed in different meshes.
As I see it (and also going along withmost other zombie media), whatever possesses the corpse, also gives it the ability to somehow move and somehow perceive its surroundings.
BUT, however they do it, it clearly (IMO) isn't the corpse's own will that moves its body or sees and hears. They are as puppets to some other, outside force.
The Servants, on the other hand, seem to actually have control over their own body and mind - or at least would have if not fitted with the masks.

Yeah I see the servants as being more like the Strogg from Quake 2/4. Forcibly turned into cyborgs against their will, controlled by an external source, but still conscious and aware of their surroundings... a chilling thought.

I think those "things" have two brains, the slaves everytime speak to the mask or the circuit, for example when one says: you have reacted to nothing, be more accurate, i think those slaves speak to the mask's system. :erg:

Interestingly, that would make them to zombies in the original sense: being alive but being controlled by someone else.
