Param, param. NOPE!
The rust gas did precisely the same that 2 water or 1 simple gas arrow does!
:cheeky:
Quite the simplest solution.
Nope. Big key here: THE gas had ALREADY settled into dust. The bot was STILL walking and talking AFTER the rust-gas was SPENT.
The Mechanists weren't about machines replacing magic. They were about aggressive progress, ancient technology, genocide, ridding The City of the threat the Hammers faced in recent City history, making slaves of the poor and wretched and filthy, controlling the City Watch, and placing doomsday weapons about the City, with Hitler-esque charisma. And their views on common magic alone made them dangerous?

I think the cultivator was too big for that position, but you've beared in mind another possibility: using a tube in the respiratory canal, and placing a the cultivator/gas canister at the place of a lung. This could explicate the frantic breathing of the servant too.

That's why I like the possibility it's in the chest.:thumb:

how big is a cultivator though?
You don't (as far as i remember) see it next to a human APART from in the cutscene leading up to Soulforge, i kinda thought it was a bit smaller then the size of a fist, which would fit into the mouth itself.

Why this weird idea, jtr7?
jtr7 on 22/3/2009 at 13:18
I
explained the purpose in the words you omitted from my quote:
Quote:
And for those who don't like the idea that the Servants have rust-gas canisters and a Cultivator anywhere but behind the mask, even though you don't like that either...
If the Cultivator & Rust-Gas Canister fits in the mouth, then they shouldn't be able to talk or pant. The Cultivator & Rust-Gas Canister are too big to be right behind the lips. The Servant's jaw would have to be removed, something would have to be removed. Again, that's why I suggest the chest cavity is where it goes.

I think we just have to assume that the cultivator model ingame was made larger so that it would be easier to see, because this wouldn't fit anywhere inside a masked servant.
ManicMan on 22/3/2009 at 15:05
I was trying to go with the size shown in the movie because, yeah, I think the in-game model was probably bigger for game play reasons.. Like how come the Eye is shown (in Thief 1) as being alot less advance then it is shown in the cut scenes.. It looks more like just the top half of the cut scene version.
Why does the rust gas need to be stored in the same place? again, in the movie clip, the gas enters via one chamber, and then gets to the Cultivator. Perhaps just the Cultivator is in the mouth, the rust gas itself is elsewhere.
Any the voices of the servants, to me, COULD (and this is just a could) be made not via the mouth, but maybe a 'fake' mouth, much like Garrett's fake eye. This the 'robotic' echoy sound... of course, this is just an idea, Someone needs to take a few frames from that video and try to work out the 'true' size of the things...
