How much VRAM do I need to run most games including Thief III? For now I'm stuck with a PCI platfrom. PCI-E will come later when I'm not so poor. x8? X16? I don't want an expensive card......

PCI-E is the best for the price.

You're stuck with an old PCI platform? No AGP? No PCI-E? Damn. That's an aged relic. What are it's stats? CPU, RAM, Motherboard?
Here's someone's (
http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Small-HK-Store__W0QQ_armrsZ1QQ_fsubZ223536519) ebay store with a bunch of PCI video cards. Looks like it's only Geforce 6200, 5500, and Radeon 9200s. The Geforce 6200 would probably be the fastest but it makes me wonder if it's mislabeled as PCI, instead of PCI-E, though. The 5500 might actually be faster, and more likely to be correctly labelled. Pretty much everything runs Thief I & II just fine. Not sure how well a Geforce 5500 would run Thief III. It would probably be half-decent. My geforce 4200 ran Thief III okay on lower settings.
