Got to be the mix, it started there.
Thief without the haunts would be a Thief that had been gutted.
But yea, I am buying it regardless (just not on pre order :nono:)

We all want Thief 4 to use DP and MA for reference yes?
Well, in both if those, there was a MIX of fantasy and reality.
And...well...that says it all.

A well-balanced mix is always best. Don't overdo the mystical element, the undead and monsters.

realistic fantasy world--things and abilities have to exist for a plausible reason (not because it sounded cool).
That's why I always hated the "eyeball plants".

I prefer the mansion style levels. With "realistic" I assumed a more modern game, so I rather voted for the mix of fantasy and realism because I definitely would prefer the medieval theme. So maybe I missunderstood the poll. :p
Still, I enjoyed the original games and even though I'm not a fan of the underground levels with lots of zombies, they got me a a nice creep, so I accept them as part of the game and don't mind if they are included again. Even though they wouldn't be my first choice. :)

Anything but a mix would ruin it. Of course, realism (as in non-magical) should always be much more prominent. It depends on the mission type. You don't want to overdo the fantasy elements, but properly used they balance with the rest very well.
One of the images that defines TDP for me is the large, distinct, unreal particle-streaming streetlights, one of which you can see early on in the first mission.

Heaven forbid we get chaos with our Maw's of Chaos! Heaven forbid we get fantasy in our fantasy! Ludicrous! Heaven forbid we lose half the Thief Universe to fantasy haters that wanna gut a fantasy game.:tsktsk:
:cheeky:
Bring back the old pre-Cataclysm Hammerite technology, dabnabbit! \o/ So much of it went missing!
Y'all are scaring me with this kinda taff!

The usual mix. Thief has a specific ambiance that is like no other game I've ever played.
