*sigh* Neither an Anachronism or Steampunk.
It's just Thief. A class of its own.

As everyone else has said, the immersive, atmosphere, game play and story line a truly 100% sexalent. I also however enjoyed how you learned about the world without getting history lessons, its just so natural like you knew it all along. I really liked that part. And it’s a great relief to find a game that isn’t chocked full of god damn random ass pointless out of place puzzles (this coming from someone who played myst…>.<) I mean, sure it had some, but the ones it did have MADE SENSE. There’s also the not being a walking tank, so being in cramped situations is actually scary cuz you can’t just blow your enemies to bits and drink a health potion. And you’re not dying every 30 seconds like in FSPs…And it’s not all about killing people, and you can figure out your own ways of doing things, etc etc. Oh, and I have a thief fetish… always have, dunno why. I blame disney (aladdin to be exact, lol). But I guess that only makes it great for me, not everyone…
Oh, and I disagree that T2 wasn’t as creepy. Sure, it wasn’t full of haunts and zombies, but there were other things, like in the final mission when I found out Karras
was turning hisown followers into servants
it gave me chills. Made me wanna kill Karras personally and I was playing no kills too ^_^. It was creepy in that demented psychological way, not that BOO ZOMBIE sorta way (not to say T1 was, but shhh, u get my point). Oh, and the vile little tree beasties about made me poo myself… especially since I walked up to one n went “what a cool looking tree AHH IT’S HURING ME!!!! *runs away like a little bitch and picks up a train of 3 more trees* AHHH!!!”

Atmosphere and story are two big 'yesses' in my book. But something that sets the Thief games apart (even TDS) is the openness of play. I’ve tried a few more “stealth action” games in the past, and they couldn’t hold a candle to Thief (especially the SC games – I tried to like it, but it was just so darn linear that I lost interest). In Thief, you can pretty much tackle your goals any way you see fit and I really enjoy that sense of freedom. It’s like the developers said “here’s what you got to do, now go ahead and knock yourself out” instead of “here are your objectives, not let me hold your hand and guide you on how to exactly do everything.” That’s just some of the reasons I love Thief.
In SC -I tihnk tou reffer to Splinter cell. I 78.3% agree on that for sc1, and 2
However! Chaos theory gives you a WHOLE LOT MORE. It's not thief, but it is outstanding. Much better than thief3 [comparing thief1&2 to thief3 with contrast of sc1&2 to sc3]
My favourite are 1,2 and im gettin gold soooooon

on the other hand chaps while i think the origional thief had a magic that will never be recapured (opening movie is my personal fav thing) you can now convert deadly shadows and effectively make it thief 1.5.
what does this mean? it means a scary game, with both huge and twee levels, mechanists and zombies.
Infact someone, should start a ds project to convert thief one and two to the ds engine, after all there is a strong enough community here to do it. But i think people will have to wait about a year while modders get to grips with the new tools they have been given. :thumb:

Impossible!! Thief3 engine SUCKS [no leaning, rope arrows, water]
The HalfLife 2's SOURCE engine is my favourite pick
However, it is already being done for Doom3

We're not converting Thief 1 and 2 in the Dark Mod though. What we are doing is creating a Thief inspired mod with new characters. :)

I know that. But the toolkit will provide the ability to convert/remake
Doom3 is a better choice than half-ass unreal2
