Ok the minority has two people, thats all.
And don't forget thief is just a game. A game doesn’t have to be realistic in every aspect.

At least three.

The number is sufficient to be worrisome, sad to say.

Four.
Water could potentially offer interesting stealth gameplay, but I suspect you need to figure out how to replace sound first. I'd like to see a mission that was serious about including water in the gameplay. I dabbled with the idea many years ago, but ended up deciding that you couldn't do a good job with all the dark engine limitations (well, I couldn't, anyway).
EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, Komag emailed me about doing one as well ... did he ever actually go ahead and release it? Did it have actual underwater stealth?

A number of one digid or even two doesn't worry me at all.

It's "digit". Plus, I think it's far more worrisome that people think Thief cannot be created without water. Again, see the FMs. I don't even have to mention the ridiculousness of imagining the watery ways of T1/2. It has already been subject to a couple of neat situations in "The Mental Age".
That doesn't mean gameplay employing water is bad, just in case someone couldn't see the difference, it just means that it's not utterly important like shadows or patrolling guards or multiple ways from A to B. I think that was the downwinder's intention.

A number high enough to be considered by EM is worrisome--especially if there's a number of them influencing the T4 team from within EM's walls.

Sorry, I completely forgot the immediate danger we're living in. :tsktsk:

Thief is not defined by swimmable water and rope arrows. These tools are great and cool, but not core to Thief gameplay. If they were core, any game with swimmable water and placeable ropes would've been Thief. However, Spelunky isn't Thief.

Count me as number 5. This forum tends to get into group think where everyone assumes that everyone must agree with them. I wonder how many people have played Thief 3, enjoyed it, but never bothered to join a forum to discuss the game? The biggest Thief fans are those that have followed it from the beginning, and have gone on to create and play the fan missions. But the majority of Thief players don't fit that category. It would be hard to know what the silent majority thinks about Thief 3, and what would appeal to them in Thief 4. I suspect that most have never even used a rope arrow, so they don't know enough to even miss it in the first place.
