That's not what I was getting at, and no thats not what I'd want. I'm not asking for that. Okay?
It would just be nice if there were more areas to explore. Several kingdoms at war would add more to the story... and its 2010, it would be nice if they could make the game bigger and more expansive than it was last time. This is a very big company with deep pockets, so I figure, there's no harm in asking. :) You wouldn't have to travel outside... if they really had a problem with that... maybe by sewer? Or maybe some kind of thief's highway of interconnecting tunnels, passages, caves, and sewer systems?

Well, since folks are throwing in their two cents, here comes mine.
- I hated the dagger. No use for it at all other than assassinations. Of course the aim of the game was not to go on a killing spree, but I would want something larger than a damn dagger to defend myself against heavily armed guards. Garret's sword was small enough to conceal but large enough to bust in doors, parry against attacks, and kill guards in one overhead swing.
- Self awareness was a cool idea, but like others have said, it took its tole on the gameplay. I think it would be better put to use if they modeled it after Halo 3. Master Chief's body moved perfectly and didn't wobble when moving.
- Blue shadows? Ok, the shadows were annoying and took a huge chunk out of the realism of the game. It just made it feel Harry Potter-ish when I was in a castle with some glowy blue stuff in a doorway. And I liked how in the original Thief the objects you looked at were highlit with a slightly brighter version of how it looked, not all blue and shiny. Bring it back!
- The realism of the first two games didn't come from an awesome 3d engine, it came from the gameplay itself. The graphics looked too shiney and everything reflected light in TDS. That's not realistic at all. It looked like everyone and everything was covered in water.
- 3rd person view... I for one am not a fan. I understand why they went with it in TDS but it just didn't fit the Thief mold in my opinion. The realism of the game came from first person, and going 3rd person made it feel more like a straight up action game instead of a stealth-based shooter.

Interesting idea, but not until later in the game when you're up against much stronger and smarter opponents. Also, you should only be able to use it for 10 seconds at a time, then wait to use it again.
Might as well splice some TF2 in there.
I have to disagree with side missions. I always liked that Thief didn't have side missions. Some missions weren't important to the plot, like Down in the Bonehoard (sp?), but they linked to the next mission. Side missions seem like they would stray too far from the plot, and would cause Thief to be meticulous/boring (which I would hate) and the break in plot would destroy that immersion that Thief is well known for (which I would also hate) However, I would like to see some small houses that you can break into, if just for the sport :p
Also, I disagree with any kind of upgrade system, because a master thief should be able to use the simplest tools in the most effective ways.
However, I do think that there needs to be some kind of... money sink. I'm so afraid that I'll end up with too much money halfway through the game. I suppose that should be a self-imposed limit, and I can't think of anything else.

Come on. What could possibly be more fun and immersion than "congratulations! You have unlocked the title 'dabbling lockbreaker' after opening 100 simple locks. To reach the next rank and to be able to open higher difficulty locks, you will need to find and open 1000 easy locks!"

Well, it's one of those with an even number in the title, so chances are that it will be bottom of the trash. Think of ThiAf as the equivalent to Star Sucks: Episode 1. An annoying child actor as the new protagonist, a child whom you want to throw into the nearest toilet or trashbag or something, and some cgi buddy who's name I have luckily forgotten by now. ... Actually, I haven't. Jar Jar Binks, wasn't it?
Or don't think of ThiAf like that, but I will.
In the unlikely event that I am wrong, I thus will be most pleasantly surprised. In the more likely case that I am right, I won't be disappointed. :p
Ha! It is GOOD to see you around, Lytha.
That's what T4 should have: a "Lytha" level. In other words, a level in which you may leave absolutely no trace--nothing, and I mean nothing--touched, breathed on, alerted, or otherwise bothered.
Playing "Lytha's Way" is why I had absolutely no problem with the loss of the sword. Who needs a sword when the point was to never use it?

Now please return to the City to finish refurbishing your house and to feed your pet burricks.

When I played Fallout 3, I would restart the entire game from scratch upon each death. Due to non-linear gameplay it never felt repetitive
