What (or who) does Garrett care about ... apart from money? - by chagnampra

Hmm... was it Orland? I think Orland might have been the douchey one.
Artemus.
Dig the idea otherwise.

Here's an idea: why not use the little girl from the end of Thief 3 as a connection? She could be a junior taffer, get a little guidance from Garrett but generally be on her own - until she bites off more than she can chew one day and gets caught. Then someone could be using her to try and get to Garrett - either to finally put an end to his 'career' or to use him as a means to an end - Blackmail. That could form the first part of a storyline - being forced to help a purpose that may be entirely against his conscience. The second part then could be some form of revenge plot, or setting things straight - contain the damage, right some wrongs and eventually putting Mr Blackmailer out of his misery.
Very nice idea there :thumb:

hm I always understood Garrett as a person who just cares about himself...good old Vicy blackmailed him to get his support...he helped his "old mates" out of the mess for reasons like: curiousity, greed and keeping his informants alive (which means more money for his own person)
I think he gained my personal sympathies because of his bad luck...he just wants to live the life of a successful thief but at the end he's always the fool who saves the world ...poor Garrett :erg:

I liked the video chagnampra. :D
But maybe you should mention on youtube that it spoils the plot twist from TDP?
This thread has some interesting points. While having Garrett more emotionally invested in something could be interesting, you'd have to be very careful implementing it.
The idea of Garrett,
oh so reluctantly, coming to love someone (platonically or otherwise), and ending up having to save them, makes me want to heave.:p
I'd rather something with Artemus too, shame
they killed himin TDS. I suppose you could try the 'apprentice' angle, that could go so badly, though.:erm:

... 'Course, I could have been reading things into that relationship that others didn't think was there, but sometimes the hopeless romantic in me takes over. (I hate it when that happens!!!)
I've always wondered if, maybe, Garrett and Victoria had a thing (by which I mostly refer to sex) going, before the whole doublecross in TDP. And maybe they were drifting that way again before the end of TMA?
But then, I'm probably reading more into it than is there too.

I agree; or at least that's how it seemed to me. I keep hearing the emotion in his voice when he yelled 'Viktoria!!!' (end of cutscene B16b.avi) and imo he sounded like a man would sound when calling out to his love when she was in mortal danger. The fact that Garrett didn't talk about or openly acknowledge his true feelings for Viktoria would be in keeping (no pun intended) with Garrett's nature not to make a big deal of his feelings for anybody. In the same cutscene when the young Keeper tells Garrett that Viktoria's gone to try to destroy Karras herself, there was serious emotion in Garrett's voice when he exclaimed, 'NO!!!'. So yeah; I'd like to think that Garrett had developed some serious feelings for Viktoria even though he didn't want to (I mean c'mon; the woman stole his eye for cryin' out loud!!). Which, of course, is probably why the TMA devs felt it necessary to kill her off. :p ;)

Nah, I think this expression in his voice could also be some kind of worry, that she will get killed and his plan on how to stop karras fails, cause she fucks things up in the cathedral.
Falling in love with someone who tore out one of your eyes isn't more probable than that.
This whole "love story for T4" thing could end up with a game, that is a 1000 times crappier than anything you have ever seen before in the game industry (garrett+love=> epic *barf*)
