What (or who) does Garrett care about ... apart from money? - by chagnampra

Garrett and Viki definitely had something going on, but FriendlyStranger is right. Anything overt would be terrible for a plot point, the most it should be is a suggestive background element.

Unless you're an incurable romantic

Even as a romantic person you have to recognize some limits for your partialities. Even as a straight away romantic you can't just like every story on this globe just because it contains "love" - or can you imagine anyone sighing at the thought of Hitler marrying Eva Braun in his bunker 1945? "ohhh how romantic, finally adolf has found someone..." - ridiculous.
Romanticism has (in my eyes) no room in the Thief saga. If you make Garrett a "caring"citizen, then the magic of this figure is away - its like you change Superman and make him vunerable, take away his super powers and draw comics about his future life with Lois Lane and his job at wal mart
(The New Adventures Of...).

Nah, I think this expression in his voice could also be some kind of worry, that she will get killed and his plan on how to stop karras fails, cause she fucks things up in the cathedral.
Falling in love with someone who tore out one of your eyes isn't more probable than that.
Especially if that someone is a non-human with branches shooting out of her fingertips...

I think this is pure fan projection fantasy. There isn't any suggestion that anything is going on.
Back OT; as far as we know Garrett only cares about himself and money, and his being caught up in the plots of Thief 1,2 and 3 is fate. A fate he would rather do without. I don't recall him ever expressing a fondness for anything, nor being happy about any of his victories.

Vikky cast that spell that forced them to work together. Garrett saw her in a little different light but against his free will.

I don't think the spell did that exactly. Vicky says: 'the earth keeps your promise for you'. I guess that if Garrett (or Vicky) would betray the other one, that 'the earth' (but who/ what?) would punish them.

I find this idea plausible. There was definitely some connection between them but Vicky could well have been cheating to get him to be more cooperative with her plans.

Hopefully nobody. I wouldn't want "Thief IV" to violate Garrett and this series in the same revolting way that, for instance, the third season of "Dexter" did with its main character.

even if it was with Viktoria (potential high cheese factor there though)
sap would be a bigger concern than cheese, I believe
