Just installed Thief Gold following the RED guidelines thread. Thanks by the way. Anywho, I have yet to install a patch or update. I have the texture patch ready to unzip and was going to follow up with the Darkloader program. Is this all I need to play the game and the fan missions?

There is no patch necessary for Thief Gold, only for Thief: Dark Project. You need Darkloader to play FMs. I've never tried the texture upgrade. I have the gold version. Also, do not unzip the FMs, Darkloader will do that for you.

You don't need to use Darkloader to "optimize" Thief as it suggests. Just add the textures like the instructions that came with it tell you to do and run the game. Viola! Updated textures.
