I loved the Gauss Rifle in FO3, but haven't found one in NV yet unfortunately. Well, none that wouldn't require murdering someone!

It's the wasteland. I murdered the Sheriff of Megaton for his sweet hat.
Okay, I didn't actually. But it tempts me so...

The unique Gauss Rifle can be found on some farm, but only if you haven't taken the Wild Wasteland perk. Else it's replaced with some alien raygun.
With the exception of major plot-critical NPCs, Stealth kills don't count towards faction standing. Feel free to murder some BoS chap over at the Hidden Valley and take his.

That's more of an exploit than a legitimate strategy, plus it would be out-of-character...

You get that later on in the game if you decide to
become friends with the brotherhood of steel and do some quests for them, which gains you access to their weapons vendors..
Nameless Voice: Firstly look at this map:
(
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_map)
Go to the location marked
crashed Vertibird and you'll pickup a very nice energy weapon. There is an absolute shitload of robotic enemies guarding it (around 20-30 of them I think though I'm not certain), but its worth the battle. Very nice weapon that I used alot in Fallout 3. Does some nice damage against the deathclaws too. Its only downside is that it burns through your MF ammo super fast.

Optional side areas should be hard as thats the nature of side quests in rpgs both pc and on consoles. The very nature of side quests is for them to be hard and require you to level grind or go get better gear or whatever.
As spoken by someone who mostly plays console "RPGs".
No, the very nature of side quests has nothing to do with challenge, grinding, or fighting retardedly powerful side bosses that come mostly down to reading a game guide and/or luck.
Jesus, the Fallout 3/NV has barely anything to do with classic western RPG as it is and you STILL fail at it. Just how bad are you?

No worse than your ability to achieve something resembling humanity. Why are you still here, again?

You only need to be over 13 to join. There was no question about humanity.

I hate to break it to you, but NV is Fallout 2 with a first person camera.
I suppose you might limit your definition of classic western RPG's to Wizardry, Bard's Tale/Dragon Wars, and the first 3 Ultima games, in which case you'd be right; It has too much C&C.

I hate to break it to you, but camera position affects more than just aesthetics.
