Re-read Emerald's post a little more carefully.
I think he was referring to theBlackman's post. In which case, I too wonder where the Tree Beasts were in TDP/Gold.

Ah, yeah, there weren't any.

Thanks for the information on the creature.
Still not too happy with Garrett needing to sneak around dark, wet sewers though. No place for a thief!! *grouses about getting boots, cloak and gear all wet*
And I find it odd that Garrett would be interested in Keeper prophecies. Could someone explain why he'd be motivated by Keeper information? Is it a lucrative area, because Garrett doesn't strike me as someone who might sell information for profit...
although you never know what thieves do for money...still...:erg:

The ending of Thief II (assuming you've played through it) makes clear why Garrett's interested.

It does? I might be slow, forgetful or simply too tired but all I can remember is
THAT he wanted to see them (the "yes" in the end), but not WHY he wanted to see them.
From my memory - *SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T PLAYED THROUGH TO THE END OF THIEF 2*
Garrett - "Karras... Viktoria's death, all of it... was written in your books?"
Artemus - "All is."
Garrett - "And there's more?"
Artemus - "Yes."
Garrett - "Tell me."
Basically, Garrett's been caught up in two major events in The City (The Trickster's return and Karras's plans). He's been through a lot, and according to the prophecies in Thief II, there's going to be more danger and obstacles ahead for him. After everything that's happened to him in by the end of Thief II, Garrett's basically realized these things are going to happen to him - keeping to himself and staying in the shadows isn't going to stop it. So he's accepted his role and then wanted to find out everything he could in preperation for what was to come.

I need help desperately!!
Please tell me that the tree beasts can be killed by a broadhead arrow? I'm at the Taproot altar, I've done everything for the ritual but with that stupid beast patrolling the place, I can't do much before he hears me setting something off and BAM dead Garrett!
I've used up all my gas mines, and I don't have any fire arrows at all. Only thing I have is an explosive mine, oil, water and moss arrows among the normal weapons.
Also, after the Ritual is done correctly, does the Taproot tree open up to reveal the Paw so that you can grab it? It only seems to emit a burst of blue smoke, hissing loud enough to draw the beast, but I walk up and Garrett still can't get the Paw.
Kovitlac on 26/2/2006 at 15:28
I'm trying to remember... I was a little confused too, but after looking UP I was able to grab the Paw. I couldn't actually see it very well, so it was pretty touch and go. I'm sure you did everything right, but maybe just think over it again just in case.
As for the broadhead arrow...enough of them would, I think. If that isn't working, go back through the game and try to find a fire arrow you might have missed. A mine would most deffinetly take one out, too.
ZeroFlight on 26/2/2006 at 17:33
I've never tried to hurt one but I doubt a standard arrow would do damage since they're both made out of wood. In any case, every time you satisfy one of the ritual requirements, a root will remove itself from covering the paw. Each time you do that, it makes a sound but as long as you do it when the beast isn't in front of the altar, it shouldn't attract it. Once you have all three done, you just have to run up, jump and grab it. It's not in an odd angle or anything.
How are you taking care of the bood one? That's the toughest one to satisfy.
SithLord2001 on 26/2/2006 at 17:51
Yes you can kill treebeasts with broadhead arrows, I believe it takes around 4-6 so, if needed I'd use the explosive mine first but, if u can just grab the paw and run...I'd do that
