Edit: As for me, while I'm probably pretty normal for most things, I've never used shaving cream. I just use water, or just shave dry. I never really saw the need and it's never been an issue for me.
You should give it a try. Generally the moisturizing stuff helps get a better shave and actually smells pretty nice. My shaving cream has aloe in it. makes me smell like pretty things.
I tend to mix up my deodorant. After I shave I typically apply some baby oil with shea butter in it, then some baby powder on top of it. If you shave your pits, don't put deodorant on at least for a good 6 hours. There's some interestingly scary studies about the stuff in deo being linked to cancer if it gets in your blood. Micro cuts are something to keep in mind.
Otherwise I used Arrid XX solid stuff, although I'm looking to switch to something else that's decently anti-antiperspirant and smells fresh. Anyone out there know any deo's that smell more along the lines of flowers, or a clean slightly feminine scent?

If it's some occasion I wanted my face to smell nice, then I'd dab on a little cologne, and I use body soap in my shower to wash my face too, so it generally has a pleasant aroma from that. I don't quite understand "better shave". When I shave all the fuzz comes off. What's better than that? From my perspective, it just costs more money & more slog goes into the environment for not doing anything water and soap isn't already.
Incidentally, in case anybody was curious what an authentic Burma shave is like (my recent daily life until last month), pretty much you get a tub of cold water you scoop out with a bucket for bathing, shaving, dishes, and laundry.

It's a closer shave that lasts longer. You can get a can of barbasol for like 90 cents, not much of an investment. I found it also treats my fairly sensitive skin well by making it easier and less/not painful to shave, especially with razors I've used a few times.

I once tried shaving with a straight razor.
A hour later I was sitting in the emergency room, trying to explain to the doctors and cops that I actually wasn't all that suicidal, and didn't need to be put on a watch.

At tough mudder they gave away a lot of stuff like razors and deodorant and I was being polite and just taking one of different things and one of the attendants running the booths just took my free tote bag and just started shoveling things in it so now I have like 40 mini-degree deodorants sitting around. I don't like anti-perspirants usually but its nice for if I don't get to come home after the gym and have to go somewhere where I actually don't want to smell god awful. I've hidden them in enough places that generally I always have one if I really need it.

Strange thread.
I prefer a solid stick with a weak scent. I can't find that, I'll go with a roll-on. I hate sprays and don't like sticky gels or strongly scented deodorants of any type
I'm not that hairy, but like faetal I don't mind doing a bit of manscaping to please my partner. I'd probably draw the line at shaving my pits :erm: but fortunately I've never been asked.
Regarding female body hair, I'm mostly agnostic about it. It can be attractive or unattractive depending on the person. Most of the girls I've seen IRL with body hair are hippie/alt. It looks natural on them and isn't really a positive or negative. On occasion, I'll see a nice looking mainstream, fashionable girl show some armpit hair and it's so unusual it always catches my attention (in a positive way :thumb:). I usually prefer the look of pubic hair to shaved/waxed, but my wife and several of her female friends say waxed is easier and feels better. I'm OK with leg & belly hair also, but a nice pair of legs usually looks better shaved.
The hairless look is popular among younger people these days and at least part of it can be attributed to internet porn and thus objectification of women. But, I also think women force conformity among themselves and women's fashion and grooming trends are more a product of changing women's expectations than men's. It seems especially true of women in stable relationships who pay the most attention to how they appear to their female friends.
