What was I thinking... (Ruins of Originia) - by YcatX

I just replayed my missions. What was I thinking? I should have been lynched. I played using Newdark and I found that several features don't work the way they did originally and the missions were almost impossible. However I did catch the rope like people said was impossible...

Nope... I'm checking it out now... I fixed so many things in the version 2, but it was lost in my HD failure... SIGH...
[edit]OMG... I was first up?!?[/edit]

Why, hello there!
I can only speak for the Mines of Margroth for now but despite the difficulty, I enjoyed it! It is very different from other missions but the sheer size of it is just incredible. I'll be continuing with Gilded Rivalry in the coming days so I'm excited about what that's going to bring!

Oh, so you played only the first one... I'm still watching the videos and loving your comments and reactions..

I've played the campaign couple of month before with NewDark-patched Thief. The only problem I've experienced was exactly with the pit part (4 ropes). This I solved (you will laugh) with a tree seed staff (I've just grove it up near the far passage entrance) =))))
By the way: it was a remarkable experience! Really enjoyed with the gameplay. This campaign is the best labyrinth one I ever saw for Thief. A strong flash-back to old Doom levels ;)

RoO had its faults for sure but was also highly imaginative. I think a lot of we mission designers cringe a bit when we come back to something we did so long ago. I know I have.

Yes, I would imagine that's true for many authors. But the older missions, foibles and all, are part of our history and that's just cool in itself. Seeing how the authors grew and how mission design progressed from the early days on up to today is pretty fascinating. I'm still amazed at the things that have been accomplished, especially with 1.18. And there were some really innovative things in RoO.

Thanks... :D
Yeah... I noticed some changes on how thing operated under the new updates. I noticed that some things failed to light correctly. I know I pushed the engine into doing rather strange things, so I'm not surprised that it doesn't operate completely the same. There was always that random glitch that would cause AI's to seize up and other strange things to randomly occur. I did have a version 2 that I was going to release with the prequels that were lost in the HD failure. :( Oh well...
However, I do have the prequel beta version of the two prequels. The objectives are all messed up on the first mission on Expert. It gets real strange on Expert... Sigh... Me and my grand ideas... I didn't make any auto maps to those two missions.
