we know deus ex has GREAT atmosphere, but what was the one part that caused you to look behind you every now and then
<BLOCKQUOTE><FONT size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">Spoiler:</font><DIV STYLE="background-color:#000080"><FONT color="#000080">my scariest moment was running around the duclare mansion with icarus asking me "where are you going?" "what are you looking for?". jesus, i was peeking around every corner, afraid to see the assasins that nocked off beth. i think i shot niccolette about five times from her prancing around a corner without me knowing.... </FONT></DIV></BLOCKQUOTE>

I've only just gotten to that mission, <BLOCKQUOTE><FONT size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">Spoiler:</font><DIV STYLE="background-color:#000080"><FONT color="#000080">but when Icarus started chattering at me I flipped and started leaving LAMs everywhere.
I freaked again when I crawled out of the dumb waiter in the kitchen and heard the LAMs I left in the halls and stairwell go off!
Turns out Nicolette set the darned things off. She didn't even have the good manners to die doing that.</FONT></DIV></BLOCKQUOTE>
I get really jumpy anytime I know there are greasels around. I hate 'em.

Hmm.. there wasn't any part of this game that was scary :\. Now System Shock 2 on the other hand...

*Minor Spoilers*
The mansion's a good mission. It still only made me apprehensive the first time I played it through. Subsequent times I wasn't that bothered by it (once I even managed to get Nicolette stuck in the bathroom... but that's another story).
The only other bit where I felt the "look out behind you" syndrome kick in was the System Shock 2 tribute part (aka the Undersea Mining bit) where everyone's dead and you have to piece together what's going on from logs scattered about the place etc. Get the picture?
Other than that it's not really meant to be a scary game so no, it didn't scare me.

The most unsettling part was
<BLOCKQUOTE><FONT size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">Spoiler:</font><DIV STYLE="background-color:#000080"><FONT color="#000080">
when icarus first spoke to me, I think in Paris when you're cleaning the greasals from the sewers. It was simple and to the point:
"I now have access to your primary systems" or something like that. Completely out of the blue and very sinister. I just stood there, breathless, waiting for something, anything to happen. The most disturbing part was... nothing did happen.

Very tense moment.

I never really was scared by Deus Ex. It's wasn't scary good, it was just good good.

For me, the scariest part of the game was
<BLOCKQUOTE><FONT size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">Spoiler:</font><DIV STYLE="background-color:#000080"><FONT color="#000080">
when I reached the chamber in Area 51 with the clone tanks in (on my first play through DX). After Page had told me that he had a surprise waiting for me to the north, I saw the empty tank labelled JC Denton, and decided that there must be a JC clone awaiting me to the north. I was very glad when I found that I was wrong, particularly as I had had great problems dealing with Simons.
However, not even this was comparable to the fear that Thief 1 or System Shock 2 inspired the first time through - especially the spiders!</FONT></DIV></BLOCKQUOTE>

now that i think about it, i really should have entitled the thread: "What was the *freakiest* part of the game, for you?"
you all are right, in that it wasn't very scary. does anyone know how i edit the title itself?

Nothing scared me in Deus Ex, but as mentioned above, my first time through SS2 had me up with dreams about zombies everynight. Cool dreams though, I would hack and slash all of them.
Another game that made me jump alot and get goosebumps down my spine was Clive Barkers Undying. That game truly is an FPS Horror game.
