It had to be the point where I was going to break into the warehouse.
I had my crossbow loaded with tranquiliser darts, my riot prod fully charged. Glancing around me I climbed off the ladder and onto the roof. At this point I needed the toilet and so attempted to jam the pause key. Unfortunately, an earlier accident with a choccy biscuit and some tropical tango had led to both the escape key and the pause key being wrenched from the keyboard.
In short I had to play through the rest of Deus Ex with a full bladder on Hard.
Still I rescued Miguel and Ossie went on and he did a great set.

I wouldn't think that everyone stops to read the news postings on the public computer terminals, but... the one in the underground station with the arms dealer { Paris, pre-catacombs, where you are fenced in upon emerging from the sewers }, near where a security bot is patrolling, will have an interesting message for you.

As already stated above, Deus Ex wasn't really scary. But it did have some scary moments in it, albeit they only work once:

Spoiler:

- Icarus. "I now have full access to your systems." Brr... Actually, the whole Paris was a bit creepy, apart from the lame catacombs.
- Area 51. All the time I knew that "something's not right in here" and I was on the edge of my seat.

Also, you should hack the Smuggler's computer in the last level you meet him (I believe it was right before you go to the
Spoiler:
Advanced Submarine base

).

Heheheh...

DX wasn't all that much of a Scare-Fest though. There were some seriously unsettling bits, to be sure. The complete absence of baddies in the DuClare mansion kept me on edge for a long time. Suspense aplenty, and I was nervous more than once around the various cameras, bots, and Things I Couldn't Identify (which is the best thing to freak a player out with: Throw something that can't be classified readily into the mix...)

Sneek said that for me...I was scared to death.

Having played Thief, and having a small experience of System Shock 2, nothing in Deus Ex scared me. When Icarus began to send me messages I was just thinking "Yeah, bring it on!", and I knew there wouldn't be much that could hurt me in the DuClare mansion. I have of course had "oh SHIT!" moments, such as when you round a corner to come face to face with a really big security bot or a gray or something, but apart from those, there weren't any sections of just pure fear for me like there were in System Shock 2 :)

DX definitly had some freaky moments, but nothing like the first time you meat a zombie in Thief (and gets up again after you "kill" it), or any part of SS2.
There was one time DX almost stopped my heart though:

Spoiler:
When you're in the subway tunnels trying to ask the drug dealer about the Mole People. When he whipped out his 10mm and blew my head off at point-blank, I jumped so high I almost cut my head off with the celing fan.

Then there was the time the missing texture bug cropped up and gave me a hooker with no pants, and no torso.
