The cradle, and The widow Moria mission would be my favorite missions, but I loved sneaking through the keeper library every chance I got. I also (contrary to popular consensus) loved going through every accesible area of town robbing the poor saps in the taverns, and homes, and mugging people (although I will admit, it did get mildly stale after a while).

Is it the consensus that the city locations are bad? I liked them. I particularly liked robbing the guy with the market stall, at every opportunity.

I loved The City locations, I thought they were well done.
What I didn't like was that the guards knew you were bad on sight, so you had to sneak your way from one end of The City to the other over and over again. It would have been nice if there was some kind of system for that. For instance:
If you're spotted doing something illegeal by a City Watch Officer, they come after you and your total 'Wanted' rating goes up. Over time if you keep getting seen, it'll get to the point that in the districts where you've been seen most often, the City Watch guards would know you by sight. Eventually, if you're just a really crappy thief with no stealth skills whatsoever, all guards in all districts would know who you are on site, and not long after that all citizens would too.
Now THAT would have been cool. But instead the master thief who's "Rarely seen and never caught" has his picture plastered all over The City and every guard knows him by site. Wonder how that happened.

In rutherford castle, when I was picking up the bloodline opal I kind of waited for something to happen. Anything.:tsktsk: the cage should have slammed shut or the alarm should have gone off or something. And nothing happened.:( It didn´t have any surprises. Boring!
That doesn't happen in most OMs, does that mean they are boring too? :p

Well, it depends. In thief the dark project happens so much that is surprising. in the assassin-level I have to get out of Baffy`s place and not only case the joint. it was quite difficult to do so in expert, when you can´t kill anyone and you don´t have too much of tools left.
and strange bedfellows was also quite surprising in a way.
Dark project had many other surprising things and I´m missing them in deadly shadow. Cradle had a couple of them, though.
And the rutherford castle was very boring in every way.

Strange, I though the castle was one of the best levels, very nice atmosphere, graphics and intrigues going there :)

Look for upcoming Hitman: Blood Money, it will have similar 'Notoriety System'.

My favorite level is the Keeper Library. Some might think it's boring, but I like how it starts (what with getting information from the keepers and all). It's very different from the other games where everyone is automaticly against you from the start.
I also like the first level where the keeper enforcers are hunting you down (I don't know what it's called...). I think the enforcers are awsome, lol. I also like Moira... And Cradle is super-cool, too. Ooo, and the one where you're in the compound. But first and foremost is keeper library. 2nd is the keeper compound.
