First impressions?
It was quite a few years back, I hadn't played it yet, but my older bro did, I was watching him play Eavesdropping and was very excited about the talk behind the doors (although I didn't understand anything back them :D), the servants freaky voices and some rooftop climbing with crate stacking.
After that I remember Bank & Trust - Fire arrows that ignored law of gravity, sounded so ridiculously loud and damage dealing.
The inside - mechanical beasts and weirdly cameras, guards and small funny little robots.
Those were basically my first impressions on Thief 2.
Thief 1 first impression was even longer ago, but a smaller one too - he was playing Bafford's start I guess, showing it to a friend or something and explaining why Thief is so cool, and I saw the blackjack, streets, some guards... It was short, but fun. :)

At last! A game I can fully enjoy, and on multiple levels! I can play this game at MY pace, and it isn't loud, repetitive, explosive, but doesn't eliminate the boom boom either, and does not require fast-twitch precision! Finally! Someone got it right! What a fascinating world with so many different emotions and moods and tension and disparate elements in harmony, the cool music and sounds, the writing! Garrett didn't always have a mechanical eye?!? Karras gave it to him? This Viktoria creature has a previous history with Garrett? I gotta get the previous title! I can't get enough! Hello, what's this cool TTLG site? Oooo, more info to savor! Dang it, this is not my computer, nor my own copy of the games! Dang it! LGS died and the trilogy was cut short! Dang it! It will be years before I can play my own copies of the games on my own system to my heart's content! I better make copies of the texts and sounds to enjoy in the meantime. Bukary wants names? I have some time to make lists, and I'm writing fan-fiction anyway, so this will be a useful reference! Say, that Lexicon looks like something I should do for the games, with all these names!

I was immediately captivated by the demo. It was apparent even back then - with 256 colour graphics and no 3d acceleration on my PC - that this game was something really different. I still think so.
Fan missions came a few years later.

Exactly what happened to me. I spent hours and hours doing everything that was possible or impossible in the demo, building staircases out of crates to get to higher places, leading guards to the water to drown them, etc. Never before had I played a game that had so much practical interactivity in the gameplay.

My first experience with Thief was terrible. I finished Unreal and other great FPSs and I was looking for another game to play. The first look of Thief was horrible: outdated graphics, obscure environment, strange way of play. So I left it. But the lack of another games to play led me back in few days. And then somehow IT happened - I got the way of play, I liked to explore unknown world full of strange places, peoples and beings, and the rest... you all know... ;)

Thought it was total shit !
WHY did the sword move soooo slowly etc etc ??
Obviously I had no idea it was not a fighting game. I ignored it for 4 years after that.

I thought that Thief is total crap, too...
The player moved too slowly, Garrett had nothing with superheroes like Gordon Freeman...
But after I played Baffords and reached Cragscleft, I loved it to death because of the story.

Yes, something similar happened to me, i tried in many opportunities to kill everybody, and played the game only a few, but when i discovered the story and how the gameplay was i started to love it. :D
