This is a moderated forum, not a democracy. Insisting on a certain level of decorum is NOT censorship.
It is censorship, n omatter what you call it. In my experience, even if something starts or becomes a flamewar, normal discussions still can go on or come out of it, if the people don't take everything personally, but apparently people now expect for the Zensors to right everything. But that's not really new. As it is in the small area like this, it's the same in the big area. That's why states have to increase surveillance and observation on all levels in order "to protect". I guess it's only consistent to see the same here.

I don't think anyone is asking the moderators to step in and ban everyone who flames someone.
Showing a bit of decency is all that is being asked here. That, BTW, is not censorship.
Suppose you, a computer genius, is called by a friend of your fathers and the guy asks you how to create a shortcut on his windows desktop from a start menu item...
Your reply is: "Go get a book you dumb f@##$, and quit asking stupid F$%!$ questions"
Now is it censorship for your father to ask you not to speak to his friends in that manner, or is it just asking for a bit of common courtesy??

How about a bit of tolerance for the members as well? That doesn't go one way, you know?
All I'm trying to say (again & for the last time because you're starting to make me growl) is that if you
know the thread you see posted here is by a newbie & is going to make you want to snap his/her head off, then just keep movin'! That's all! If you don't have the patience to deal with the same question for the gazillionth time, then don't even enter that thread. Simple logic, no? There are plenty of other members who possess the patience (some are saints, I swear it!) to respond to the question in a civilized if not downright nice manner. Just posting a shortcut to a previous thread that had a similar question with answers already provided would be enough. Not all new members are going to be as savvy & astute as you would like them to be. Accept that & move on. That's not their fault; and it's certainly not a good reason to declare open season on them. Everyone has to start somewhere.
No, sweetie; I don't feel sorry for members that deliberately go cherry pickin' when they see a newbie's post.
I will now take my own advice & go play someplace else.

I really don't care if someone is a newbie or not. If I see somebody post something blisteringly stupid (IMHO), odds are I'll comment on it. The fact that newbies are much more likely to do this sort of thing is probably what skews some people's perception of my motives (and the motives of like-minded individuals).
Maybe one of these days I'll just write a, "So, You've Been Flamed By ZylonBane" FAQ.

Commenting is one thing; ripping them to bloody shreds is a totally different matter.

In response to Goldmoon Dawn's question (which I have now read): Its a rehetorical question!
Goldmoon Dawn on 24/1/2006 at 21:13
Understood.
godofgamers, not very often does someone new come by posting deep thoughts on the theories of Garrett and The Keepers. I didn't disagree with your statements in the first posts.
Newbie-choppin' axes aside, it seems like you've put a lot of thought into your first post. Have you beaten Dark Project?

Ah, yes! The "How you should behave" - "No! YOU!" -flamewar has once again graced our cornea's with it's burning presence.
(

(Sorry that I didn't find more... Seems GBM was very efficient in his last sweep. :erm: )

As far as dealing with their problems, that's one of the reasons the Thief forum is here, right? To help members, regardless of whether or not they're new to the forums, with
problems & issues regarding the games?
