What will become of post-Theif 3 games, if they even come to be? - by godofgamers

Of all the forums I've been to on the internet, TTLG seems to be the most unfriendly and hostile (especially with ZB roaming around), yet I find myself coming back over and over again. I think it's because the only intelligent people on the web that I've found are here, and they're mean enough to drive off all those who aren't.

From this statement, I must conclude that you really haven't visited many gaming forums.

That is so very sad. From what I've seen, other than ThiefGen, the other sections of the Thief forum are still relatively nice and people are quite helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, ThiefGen seems to be going the way of General Gaming which is going the way of (godforbid) ComChat regarding their treatment of new members. Not a good thing imho. I wish the moderators in the Thief forum were as vigilant in ThiefGen as they are in the other sections. As a fellow newbie, it's nice to have somewhere to retreat where there's little fear of getting your pants flamed off when you make a mistake or inadvertantly ask a question that's been asked before.

Don't confuse intelligence with sarcasm. No one should be 'driven off', especially in the gaming forums where members do have legitimate questions. I see nothing wrong in providing an answer in a civilized, helpful manner. Even just posting a shortcut to a pre-existing thread in which that same question was asked & answered is better than getting mean and abusive just because it's a repetitive thread posted by a new member.

Yeah, or that there were any active ones.
Last intervention I remember was Biohazard returning after about six months, closing about 10 threads at once and WHOOOSH gone before you could scream "THE HAGUE!!!!!!"
The admins pretty much have to deal with ThiefGen.

Looks like the moderators as well as admins are VeryBusyPeople. Guess it's up to the rest of us to tone down our (somewhat impulsive on my part) smartass responses & try being nicer to new members. At least here in the gaming forums; if new members venture into ComChat or GenGaming then they're on their own.

jprobs, forgive me if I'm misinterpreting you, but are you saying that you think everything that can possibly be discussed about Thief has already been discussed?
No, I am not saying that at all. It was more or less a tongue in cheek comment about the way the "older" members treat the new members when they post somthing about thief that was discussed before the new member was here.
And as far as continuing the Thief series.. Thief4 sound good to me. It doesn't have to follow the storyline whatsoever. Just give me a blackjack, some loot to go find and a big castle.. I would be fine with that :)

And I wish people would rather learn to deal with their problems on their own, instead of crying for cencorship as soon as somebody says something that they don't want to hear or like.

As far as dealing with their problems, that's one of the reasons the Thief forum is here, right? To help members, regardless of whether or not they're new to the forums, with problems & issues regarding the games?
As I said; there are nicer ways to go about advising someone that a thread has already been posted regarding the subject on which they have questions. When did 'nice' become such an anathema 'round here? I see nothing wrong with a little teasing; hell, I'm the first one to go all smartass sometimes. But why alienate new members for simple mistakes or just to see if you (as an older member) can? I've seen posts by more established members admitting that they cringe when they go back & read some of their earliest posts. I'm not crying for censorship, just asking for a little more tolerance on behalf of raw newbies. I don't think every single forum on the TTLG site
has to be a perilous gauntlet for each new member to run; nor does each forum have to be a rite of passage via trial by fire.
If someone is saying something you don't want or like to hear and you don't have constructive feedback with which to respond, then just move on.

True, I haven't found many other genres of gaming that I feel have the depth to merit wasting hours of my life talking about to people I've never met.

Oh no no, you haven't been to DA forums... the average thread is generally something that's been repeated over and over again, such as "how do u make anime facez?" and the time honored "digital art, art or not?" which has never come to a cohesive and consitant discussion, in the way the progression of many threads here do. Plus I've had a very drawn out argument with someone on the medical nature of depression, supported with links to numerous scientific articles (citing the genetic aspect of the disease), which he refuted entirely through the incredible rebutal of not feeling like reading them. This has happened multiple times with different people.
I just find that here, there is a lot of sucessiveful threads (coparatively to other places I've been) either in the form of intelligent discussion (which at times have become debates heated into flame wars, but they seem to be able to get back on track too), or simply socially engaging threads that find a way to keep going. But I still feel like if you go to one of those threads and say something out of line or just wholely stupid to begin with, you'll normally hear about until you wise up.

better people you've never met than people you've invented in order to make your humdrum, fetid, lonesome existence bearable, eh? :D
THAT'S WHAT I ALWAYS SAY
isn't that right, Mr Smythe?
