Obviously, the point is not to recreate it 1:1 and reskin it, but to take that space and adapt it, put it in a totally different context. It's a fun exercise for creative mind, trying to see connections where at first there are none. Besides, it's not like these are totally different worlds.
In shooters, especially on team-based maps (like conquest or ctf), players fight for space to get to a certain goal. In Thief, the player outnumbered by AI enters a "forbidden" space, and takes it over or negotiates a way through it with tools he have (stealth, water arrows etc.)
Again, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate, you could split those spaces by rooms and connect them with corridors, even if for performance reasons; you could make new gameplay paths within those rooms using architecture parts or other LOS blocking elements like crates to make the gameplay more fair for the player or to even the odds for AI, etc.

There has been some discussion in this thread of modifying FMs, similar to what was done with the OMs in the Reloaded contests. I like this idea in theory (I can think of many FMs I'd like to see redone), but you should know that TTLG will not condone anyone modifying a FM without the original author's permission. So if this were to become the basis for a contest, we would exclude any entrant that failed to obtain such permission. Moreover, we would not allow the creation of the usual help threads for such a mission should it be released anyway.
This may not be the theme of the next contest, but this has come up for discussion in the past, and will likely do so again. We just want everyone to be aware of these restrictions in advance.

Tannar is right.
I am still for a Lost Places Contest.

It kinda sounds like a Lost City/Places type contest might be in order. :D
What do you guys/gals think on time limits? Most contests run a couple of months - I tend to think something like this should be on the longer end of things. Ruined/wrecked places can be difficult to build and design. I was thinking of giving authors something in the 4-5 month range? That might (hopefully) provide for some additional entries.
Also, I wouldn't want too many restrictions, so I think I'd leave the daytime part of it out (although authors can certainly do that if they want). In my experience, the less restrictions the better. The most successful contests seem to have broad themes.
Any other suggestions?

I think it should be even longer. 6 months, maybe? If there's going to be a Lost City contest, I want some really good FMs out of it. ;)
Besides, well-made LC type missions are extremely hard to come by.

i think 6 months ought to do it, no more lost city missions please, unless you will use new textures, Ancient greek, Egyptian, Roman, Alexandria, Inca, Aztec, Maya and Hindu textures, here are suggestions:

Pedro - I think custom material would be welcome, but not required. This isn't a beauty contest, more emphasis should be put into gameplay and architecture/layout than just having shiny textures.

Lost places sounds like a cool idea - would love to play some tomb raider style missions.

I have a contest idea that would be in two parts. The first part would be to have a best briefing video contest. The winner and a couple of the runners up would be selected as a sort of template for the next part of the contest, which would be to choose one and build the mission the briefing is for.
