i just had a couple more idea's
first idea is a mission based on " what happens after thief 3" like the day after or a week after/etc, since we never going to get anymore true cannon to game would be cool to fix up the loose end of wondering what happens.
second idea is "7 wonders of the world" a mission based around one of the great wonders of the world your choice.
third idea is "this has been mentioned before but a prequel to thief 1 = 1 mission pre bafford, your choice of what it can be
4th and final idea "system shock 2 texture thief based mission, dont think we ever had a futuristic contest before
just some idea's i had
also you all have some amazing idea's
ohh one last idea as i always have to try "escape from the maw and make it back to your place" it would be about a long journey with each setting being smaller but connecting to each other through all the faction theme's /etc till you get home and home can be from a boat,to a room in the city/etc,i like to think of idea's where the maker can expand in the way they want so they never feel confined to a idea put forward.
wonder if i will get a reply :P
and to be honest about idea to use other missions, i say no as getting permission might be hard if they not around anymore, better off to use a om mission in stead if you worried about build time ,when and if brethern gets his ass in motion to get the next contest going,:P
also i been through those old missions 5+ times each at least so to see them again and again is not as fun as seeing something new=my two cents and i dropped one on the ground ,but you know how rough things are in the world so i picked it up :P

holy %^&* i almost forgot ,in thief 3 the kershak creatures need more love in thief fan missions, i don't think they used in any fan mission ever and ,i set one free in thief 3 followed it ,and he was cool
they also would fit ancient civ's just the underground type :P

If we stress that it has to be a nod, a creative homage, not copypasting and reworking sb else's level, the permission should not be a problem. And Kurshoks definitely need more love, once I thought about a mission that would look more like a Bioshock level, with some clues on downfall of their civilization ;)

Ah, the Kurshoks! I loved those clicking creatures - would be tickled pink to see them in a FM too! Their sunken citadel environment was great.
@Judith - fab idea. Kurshoks do need more love :)

Main reason they've not shown up is that there are no T2-compatible Kurshok AI meshes that I'm aware of. One could probably reskin an existing mesh I suppose but as I recall they had some unique features which would best be modeled as part of the shape.

The nice thing about the "Lost Places" theme is it could be any of the above. So, ancient ruins, temples, crypts, tombs are in, but also abandoned factories, warehouses, maintenance buildings, etc. Or maybe an old prison, or cathedral, or castle, or even just a village or maybe a sewer system. Or anything in the Old Quarter. Lots of possibilities. I like Terra's example of the Inverted Manse for an abandoned place that isn't some Tomb Raider scenario.
I agree with this. It's much better than a contest focusing on only one type of place and it really allows for there to be a lot more variety in the missions released. Plus we already have enough Lost City themed missions as it is and I would love if something new and innovative was done in the FM community.

I'm agreeing with everything that Sneaky is saying, except for the comment that we have plenty of Lost City style missions already - we really don't. If you look at the Fan Missions Listing sticky, under Lost Civilizations, there's only about a dozen missions referenced. That's not a lot. So even though there are lots of possibilities with this type of contest, I still think straight up Lost City missions are OK too.

I'm not sure I completely understand what you're saying here, so if I misunderstood I apologize. But it sounds as if you're saying that it's okay to use/modify another author's work so long as you make it clear that it's just an homage. If so, then to be clear, that will not be sufficient so far as TTLG is concerned. No modification of another author's FM, in any capacity, will be acceptable without their permission.

I agree completely. Plus, you can never have too many lost civilization missions as far as I'm concerned. Or too many of any kind of mission, really. :D
