Deth has some deep-seated phobia of hipsters, or anyone that says anything even remotely sounding pretentious. He flips out like clockwork. Sure being pretentious is a good way to look like a douche when you can just talk about your favorite things like a normal person, but dude you sound like a barista killed your parents in the alley behind a Starbucks because they didn't know the difference between Extreme Black Deathcore vs. Black Death Extremecore, and his dickish smirk still eats at you like an independent-label cancer. Let it go, meng. Let it go...

And then people wonder why I'm defensive and negative.
Chimpy, the whole thing about Metalocalypse is that it doesn't matter that it's playing up what's silly about metal, because things like parody or subtlety is beyond the average metal fan, who himself is a meatheaded elitist with terrible taste in clothing. They take it at face value and it reaffirms their own lifestyle choices instead of them realizing how stupid making metal a "lifestyle" is to begin with.

Uh, this is a dumb argument. Metalocalypse is fun because metal itself is absurd. If you're taking it seriously you lose. The fun of metal is the energy, you don't go looking for lifestyle canon. Metalocalypse is an appreciation of this ridiculousness. Or you just don't want non-purists (hipsters?) to like metal under false assumption?

What the hell are you even doing? Did you even read what I said? Of course metal is absurd. So is hip-hop, and jazz, and country, and especially indie rock. The problem is that metal and the metal scene have largely not changed since 1995. (And hip-hop is absurd because of crunk.)
Here, since you apparently didn't understand the first time, I'll break it down again. Shit like Metalocalypse and Brutal Legend, people who aren't into metal generally get that these are supposed to be parodies (or homages, if you will.) Metalheads do not understand this concept. The average metalhead is exactly as backwards and juvenile as Metalocalypse and BL suggest. They don't see this and say "heh, metal is absurd." They see this and say "AWESOME THIS AFFIRMS EVERYTHING I DO! ALSO, MEGADETH SOLD OUT FOR HAVING MORE THAN ONE ALBUM." I wish these damn things didn't fucking exist, because if metal is going to be taken seriously, ever, it needs to evolve. And it can't do that as long as we have meatheaded elitists in black t-shirts and neckbeards with no concept of Godwin's law or deodorant holding it back.
I've only been bitching about this sort of thing for years, so I'm not surprised you missed it.
Kuuso on 19/7/2012 at 21:52
I don't get why do you care about average metalheads or average joes though. It's like caring about the people who listen to Pendulum thinking it's anywhere near quality drum'n'bass, because you think they tarnish the genre in some absurd way.

So why hate Metalocalypse and BL because an already lost cause demographic isn't in on the joke being made at their expense? If anything, that should make it funnier to you.
Instead, you're falling into the same trap they are, just on the opposite side of the hole.

@Kuuso: Maybe it's because I want to see metal -- a genre I once had a deep love for -- taken seriously and metal fans are an impediment to that. I was pretty heavily involved in the metal scene for a while and I ran into so much bullshit it drove me away from the music for a couple years. I think it's time metal moved away from the endless retreads and started doing something new; unfortunately the fans revolt when that happens. Take Darkthrone for example. Their most seminal album, Transilvanian Hunger, is classic black metal, and several of their albums after were much in the same vein; but when they started changing their sound towards a more crust punk feel the black metal scene basically completely lost their minds and started screaming "sellout."
@Renz: I hate them because they perpetuate the problem.
The metal scene was evolving pretty frequently throughout the 80s and early 90s, but sometime around when Korn showed up everything stopped as there was a collective rallying cry to keep "the posers" out and bring "death to false metal." It's kinda like the Republican Party disappearing further into its own asshole every time a Democrat gets elected.

Stupid people are going to continue being stupid no matter what you do, like, or dislike, Deth. If you end up hating something you'd otherwise like because of the way some small collective of stupid people misinterpret it as, well...hell...you're gonna end up hating everything on the face of the earth.
Also, they win. Because they made you hate something funny just because they're too dense to get it. Do you want these people to win, Deth? Do you really want them to make you more of a bitter fuck than you already are just because they're a bunch of idiot assholes?
Why not just ignore them and enjoy life?

Well that's the other thing isn't it? Metalocalypse isn't fucking funny anyway. Regardless of how I feel about the metal scene, the actual show is goddamned terrible and I hated it from day one. According to some people that means I only find humor in rape and the Holocaust but whatever.
I eventually did come back to the music, but only after I'd put in some distance. I needed time to dissociate it with the troglodytes. So yeah, I'll gladly put in old Opeth, or the new Electric Wizard, or whatever. But I'm done with the metal scene -- they are consistently some of the worst people alive. I want these throwbacks gone. I want to see metal actually take its place in the musical canon, but that's not going to happen as long as we keep cranking out a million death metal bands that all sound the same.
SubJeff on 19/7/2012 at 23:42
I haven't heard any new death metal for ages.
