You lucky native speakers of the english language...
The most disappointing fact about T: DS for a german player is the translation. Thief 1 and Thief 2 were translated in a perfect way. I still cannot believe that these games were not made by a german producer.
But than you have Thief 3. There is no word in the english language which would fit to this crap. The german version is really using subtitles. Yes, subtitles. Because the publisher didn´t have the money (or lust?) to find some speakers for voice dubbing. Incredibly if you have played the first Thief games.
I don´t know if only the german version has been castrated in this way but the game loses a lot of atmosphere just for her miserable translation.

Thank you, Soul Shaker, for your insightful comments about the T3 gloves.
I guess what backed me away, from their hidden usefulness, was their general lack of cornering around obviously easy angles. (And btw, I got that "climbing standard", after years upon years, of guiding Lara Croft around many challenging Tomb Raider heights.) ;)
But T3 still needs to work on its reverse-mantle, down from plain ledges.

Heh, I'm so pleased I live in such a small country that dubbing TV shows, movies or games is not feasible.
"Viktooria, ookko nää valamis antaan herra Karrettille hänen korvauksensa ... nääs!" ("Victoria, are you ready to give Mr. Garrett his compensation." in Finnish, with a mix of local accents.) Goodbye, suspension of disbelief.
Dubbing is castration, subtitles are much better.

I disagree with you. I don´t know the finnish dubbing but I can imagine the "quality". I agree with you that a Finnish translation would be a disadvantage for Thief.
Fortunately I´m living in Germany and my country is making great translations, let it be PC Games, films etc. And believe me: The german version of Thief 1 and 2 is one of the best translated computer games. In no other game will you find such professional speakers and a perfect synchronisation. The german voices of Garrett are in my opinion better than the orignal one. (Crucify me!)
And so I was waiting for T3 with my very high expectations of a synchronisation similar to the first games. And was disappointed bitterly. Sure the english voices are good, but a joke for every german Thief gamer.

They did, but in the last years the quality goes down. Futurama is one of the worst translated series ever. Die Ivar Combrinck :nono:
And it got popular to abandon the use of real voice talents and let some hyped one day celebities do the job *shudder*. Imaging Daniel Kübelböck (if you don't know him you missed nothing ;-) voicing, say Benny. No, that's definitely not what I want.
The well known stars BTW are getting all dubbed by their own voice talents, i.e. in all movies with Robert de Niro the german voice is the same. And those voice talents ARE indeed vere professional and sometimes the dubbed version sounds even better and believable than the original.

I don't have the german versions, so I can't say anything about it. I've no problem with english and think the original version is great.

"This way you, dumb Taffers!" They didn't listen to the community, but, then again, each developer has it's own style. It may be worse, but, it has a personality that the other thief game don't. If LGS had done it, it would've been much like the other two with a few extras. If iD had done it, it would've been different again, maybe they woulda ruined it as well? EA had done it-oh the horror. Thief racing? Or just second-rate mass-media-market appeal?
So, yes, they didn't listen to the community, better or for worse, but it's much better than it would've been in almost anyone else's hands.
But, I guess the gloves od suck in that respect of angles...we'll just blame that on the fact that he's used to ropes, not walls.

I thought they just moved along their routes like cardboard cutouts...no animations and such. At least that's what I've heard said on the forums throughout the years.

They do, and occasionally you can see them in that state. I've seen it in Assassins once or twice. It's pretty funny. They float about like they're crucified. Yay Easter!
