You should start a support group with SNAFU...
Man, I feel sorry for SNAFU! Though his unplanned suicides
are rather funny!
The worst death I've ever had was in Ambush! in Thief 2. I was about to sneak past the two guards(I had knocked one out) patrolling the door that needs to be lockpicked thrice, when I heard an angry guard.

Me: Oh, great. Now what? *checks health* Low. Perfect. He's getting closer.....ready sword.....no time to take a potion, don't remember the hotkey.....where is he? He should be right on top of--
Guard: *slashes me with sword*
Me: AAH! What on earth--

Then I remembered that I hadn't toggled Reverse Stereo on upon entering the game. :p

Me: *swivels around*
Guard: *slashes me in half*

I remember on Thief 2 (forgot which FM i was playing) a stange glich happened to me: i got stuck on a wall, still dont know how i did get stuck in the first place :grr: , as i was jumping and trying to get myself free from the icy grip of the wall a peasent came by and found me and yelled and told the guards where i was, (i knocked out about 5 guards in that area) so i didnt bother to think the peasent would be a threat, so i stood there jumping, crouching, doing anything to pry myself out, when i heard hasted foot steps heading towards my direction. Me="ahh man gotta get outa here now!" so i freaked out with the mouse to trick the wall to get me out and i heard this voice, "I'll see your BONES!!" and i turned and there, as sure as it he was, a guard came charging at me, so my only option was an invisibility potion i was saving for later. i drank it and the guard lost sight of me (thank god). But as you all know invis. potions only last for about 5 seconds, the potion wore off and the guard came at me once again so i freaked out and threw a mine at my feet ( i will not be die in defeat!) and since i always use the hardest difficult, the guard eventually killed me but got Blown To BITS thanks to my mine. :cheeky: :ebil:

On Eavesdropping I stood up in the pulpit- heard a Mechanist shout 'The Builder Smite thee,' or something like that. The Mechanist was still 20 yards away when i died of S.H.A.S. I nearly wet myself

Oh, and after stealing the
Fire Talisman from the Lost City, I went to jump over some lava and ran straight into a fire elemental,
which was bad timing more than anything else, but I still died :erg:
Heh, I'm worse--sometimes I forgot the proper way to the Talisman's Shrine and tried to jump over the big river of lava. Ended real quick.

Martlet, what's so funny about your divine punishment ?
I was in the Hammerites' kitchen in Cragscleft and as I had to explore everything, I crouched and went forward inside the fireplace where I stood up I died from starvation and I had to restart the mission from way back in the mines. That's how I started to save every 3-4 minutes even if I was in a safe place and no harm could come to me.

Another funny fade-to-black happened during my first trip through "Maw of Chaos" (T1). I came to a place with a frozen slope going down, and assumed it to be normal floor, thus pressing the "forward" key. Racing down at nightmarish speed I discovered that Garret moved like a heavy oil tanker on the slippery ice, yet managed to get past almost all the stalagmites (or was it stalagtites?) littering the floor. *Almost* all of them.
Bumping into one of the last of them, Garrett lost his last health points, dropped sideways and continued sliding along the ice, screaming. When the world faded to black once again and Garrett's remains came to rest near the exit of that icy area, Garrett said in a low voice: "I won't do *that* ever again." It was only after successfully mastering the icy area that I learned that this was not meant as a comment to Garrett's death, but rather meant "Phew! I made it - and won't come back!"
This one and the that time where Garrett says "it's a long way down" while falling (Lost City-Talisman Tower I think) are outstanding for me because in a way Garrett admits his own death. Almost all the crazy deaths are fun, what would the Thief games be without all these bugs ?

I can think of a funny potential death in T: DS. On occasion when a guard is walking past and you are flattened against a wall he won't spot you but he might nick you with his sword. If your health was low enough you could potentially get killed this way. Could you imagine the shock the guard would be in if a dead thief suddenly slumped onto him?

In The Haunted Cathedral mission, where you're roaming around the walled-up section of the Old Quarter in TDP, I came to that drawbridge that you can lower by shooting a broadhead into the button across the stream. Wanting to get the Serpentyle Torc, I knew I needed to get up to that doorway above the bridge somehow, but I didn't know that I could just mantle up from the lower walls. Instead, I hit upon the genius idea of lowering the drawbridge, then standing right where I was, and *raising* the drawbridge with another broadhead arrow. I'd run onto the bridge as it moved up into place, and try to somehow mantle/jump onto the wall. Needless to say, I got crushed 9 times out of 10. It took me a few more playthroughs before I figured out the easy way.

Has anyone died of SHAS while standing perfectly still?
