Heart attacks have to be the worst. I was playing that fan mission "events in highrock" and came to a balcony with a wood ledge. Despite my best attempts to mantle up with a rope arrow, I'd always spring off. In frustration, I fired at least 5 at the ledge and thought I'm getting up on that damn balcony. Garret however seemed to be getting just too old for that. Not only did I spring up that rope arrows, but procedded to utter a blood curdling scream as my heart stopped, casting my lifeless body falling to the alley below. My last sight was that damn ledge fading into shadow, my rope arrows dangling in the wind. Btw, I had a heart attack the first time that I played return to the Cathedral. You know when your sitting alone in the dark, cluthching the mouse in a sweaty palm and gripping that water arrow and hold water like no other, screaming and dying for no reason kinda scares the shit out of you. I needed a day to recover and learn about that glitch before I ventured to continue that level

Probably the mechanist with the butt-kisser helmet in Blood... I'd seen the servant in Eavesdropping, and thought this guy might be the same - a bit blind. So come up behind him, give him the old bonk. Except it didn't bonk, did it? No, it CLANGED!
One mace-stroke, and Garrett was turned into "very small, very red bits."

Ah, memories. :laff: I had a few groan inducing deaths, let's see if I can remember any . . .
Thief 2:
A fresh faced newbie, I was quite the moron. I was a viscious killer, and surprisingly enough, I managed to stay alive (barely) long enough to get to Soulforge. Then all hell broke loose.
I'd gotten quite cocky since I beat System Shock 2 melee only, so I figured, hey, these robots won't be so bad! I believe I made it half way through the mission before I ran out of supplies, I had no water arrows, no mines, nothing else to create weapons with, no healing potions, no knowledge of the healing fountain, nothing. Not good for an idiot who was completely clueless when it came to sneaking.
Still thinking I could pull this off due to my melee only experience, I tried to continue. It didn't occur to me for the longest time that I should try to sneak, that hiding from the 'bots just might be easier than running up to them, sword in hand. I got right down to one hitpoint, and I also had only one signal tower left, so I wasn't going to stop.
I'd been referring to a walkthrough from time to time, but it never occured to me to read it and find out which was the easiest to deal with. I hadn't hard saved in hours, and I ran straight into the turret bay, and quick-saved. Amazingly enough, after a few hours, (although just a few minutes, according to the game time) I got through it alive, and part way through it, the whole sneaking thing just clicked. Up until that point, I didn't understand sneaking, I didn't understand why guards were going crazy when I was jumping on tile floors, but not when I jumped on carpet. :laff:
Thief Gold: When I finally got it, I was much more experienced with both Thief and System Shock 2, though I would hold up fine. Wrong! :laff:
From playing the T2 FM Rowena's Curse, I had encountered fire elementals. Hwoever, they weren't hostile. Or, I ran through the area they were in so fast that they didn't have a chance to attack, one of the two. Anyways, in The Lost City, I saw them, and my first reaction was -- "aw, it's those cute little guys again! Hey, he's stopped, maybe I can get a better look at him. He's sure making funny noises." I was face to face with the damn thing when he shot me, I think Garrett took damage from being so close, and the bolt he shot at me killed me. :laff:
Again, in The Lost City, I headed over to the statue in the lava, and when Garrett said, "creepy," I screamed bloody murder, and punched the jump key, just out of habit. Well, I'd been walking at an angle towards the lava, and Garrett launched himself into it. :o
Yet again, in The Lost City, I was up on the fire tower, and when Garrett said something, probably "a fall from this height could hurt," I screamed again, and punched the jump key again. Garrett launched himself off the nice high ledge, and landed in the lava. Did I mention I had issues with hot items in The Lost City?
Actually, those are all I can think of right now. I hung in there fairly well, I was a foaming maniac when I reached Return to the Cathedral, it was so infamous and I loved the undead so much, I took over that place in no time at all.

Hrrmmm...stupidest way I ever died?
Well, I would have to say that it was most likely in the very first level on TMA. I had done everything; Gotten all the loot that I knew of, unlocked all the doors, bonked all the guards I needed to stolen everything, so I went to get Basso. I was already in the area of the courtyard so I used to birdcall while I was pressed up against the gate, yadda ya, that worked and Basso left, so I turned around and decided to beat him to his girlfriends room. I bunny-hopped my way through the courtyard, and then through that main hall and then into the stairs at the kitchen. That is where I died. As I was hopping, I got my thiefy body lodged between the stairs and the ceiling. I couldn't move, I could jump, and I was taking damage the more I tried to. So I sat there for about 5 minutes before I suddenly died, which scared the crap out of me, because I didn't think that I would actually *stay* stuck, much less suddenly die and hear Garretts blood-curtling scream.
Yup, that was pretty damn stupid.

Yet another reason why NOT to bunny-hop in Thief.

Here are some of my "infamous" deaths:
-At the Lost City in TDP; Jumped from one side of a ledge to the tower with lava beneath it , "sure, I can make it to the other side"...I must have been half-asleep when I jumped.
-Shalebridge Cradle: I was waiting in a dark corner, behind a piece of the wall for the puppet to come back. He entered the room, but he didn't step on the mine I prepared for him. So I took a noisemaker arrow, aimed, and released the arrow, Only to find out that the noisemaker hit the piece of the wall next to me. I looked down and saw the noisemaker right under my feet...And then it was silent...
-Strolling trough the Sherrif's house: Lalalalaaalalalalalaa, this is so easy! LalalaARRRGRGGGRGRG!!!!! (heart attack) *cough* :weird:
-Thief Deadly Shadows, Docks district: "Maybe I can avoid the guard by swiming trough the water over there..."-insert Garrett death sound here-
-Sherrif's House: -DO NOT PUSH THIS BUTTON!- "Haha, that old joke, it will reveal secret loot of course ! *pushes the button* Oh Sh%$&!!! "*dies* :tsktsk:
-Drank a slowfall potion BEFORE I jumped. "Hmm...why am I falling so fast?" ----Whack!- *sound of breaking bones* :erm:
-"I can dodge the arrows of the guard, just you watch and learn". :o
-throwed a mine under my own feet. "Now where did the bloody thing go?" I was shocked when the mine exploded right under my feet!
-"Don't worry about the Mechanical Beast, I'll destroy it with my sword." *runs behind the mechanical beast and hits it with his sword* "I have...heard something...a wretched creature!" "Oh damn." I suppose you allready know what happend after that.
-Pressed the elevator button when the elevator was still above me, while I stood beneath it.
-JUMP! *falls down* Ah danmit! *death sound*
-The maw of chaos: "This ice is fun! I can really move fast this way! Hey, what's that there at the end ?" *impaled on sharp frozen object"
-First time when I played a thief game (T2 demo): *moves forward and falls off the belltower* "What the hell? Where am I? I can't see a thing, perhaps I should increase the brightness? Why do I hear someone screaming?"

Well, being a Thief fan since I was 11, I've accumulated quite a few stupid deaths
Theif 2: In blackmail, I had found the mini dungeon through use of the fireplace. The first thing I saw was a little red button with a plaque that said "Don't press this button"
Well, i was stupid and did, next thing I know there are two giant spieders behind me. I panic, pull out my sword and back into the corner near the chaine "corpse". As I backed next to it, I heard a groan and to my horror, it was a zombie. Needless to say, I was ripped to pieces.
In LotP, I was in the necromancer's tower and saw the conjuring book. I thought it might be a journal or something, so I opened it. It was a bunch of gibberish so I just closed it. At theat moment, I heard groaning behind me and saw two zombies. This was when zombies still scared the crap out of me so I panicked and ran for the window, only to realize, it was the wrong one... :erg:
I've also experienced a good deal of heart attacks, I think Garrett might have a chronic heart problem.
Thief 1: Bonehoard. I had just snagged the horn of quintus, and had to make my way ut of the crypts. Well I sauntered up to the first ladder set in the scenter, but couldnt see the ladder. I decided to take a leap of faith and landed with a smack in the dark chasm at the bottom.
I was running the Ramierez mission for the umpteenth time and decided to fool around. I had arranged the exploding barrel in one of the side towers to fall on a ptrolling guard by merely pushing the barrel off the wall's edge. Well a guard eventually came by and I set into action. The barrel fell off the wall and plummeted toward the ground, missed the guard, and exploded in my face just as I landed on top of it after pushing too hard and falling off.
I cant remember if this happened in 1 or 2, but i was bunny hopping, and realized that the more I did so in regular timed jumps while moving foward, the faster I went. I happened to be in a particularly long corridor so I decided to do some fooling around. A few seconds later and I was moving down that hall at 20 some odd mph and going faster by the second. As I neared the end of corridor, I failed to recognize the consqeuences of b-hopping down a corridor at 20 or so mph and meeting a wall, and slammed myself into the metal door, dying instantly. I litterally fell of my chair, I was laughing so hard. :p
