Similar situation as was reported on the first page early on--playing Ambush in Thief 2 for the first time. I'm safely past the tensest initial parts of the mission, blackjacking away and thinning out the street patrols. Conga line of three guards. Hiding in shadows as they approach, then do an about-face. Sneak up behind, whump goes the 'jack, oof! goes the guard. Next one in line, whump, oof! The final one as I'm feeling mighty cocky: whump, BONNNNG! Laughing too hard to even attempt an escape as the fully-helmeted guard wheeled around and spilled my guts for me.
Replaying Eavesdropping just the other day. Gone into the main cathedral area, spent a long time just crouching in the shadow of a pillar thinking how the heck I could do this without killing anyone (first time on Expert, y'see), coming to the conclusion that it wasn't going to happen from that entry strategy, and I decide to go back out front and see if I couldn't rope up to go in from a tower (sure could, as I found later). So I sidle out of the area, turn to the door immediately to the north, and open it...to the big bot stomping directly at me not less then ten feet away, and took a cannonball to the head.
Not a death story, but still funny: I was playing the first mission of TDP (the only one I played. I know, I know, I keep meaning to snag it from a bargain bin) at a friend's computer. Outside the mansion in the streets, and being ultra-sneaky, I thought at the time. Crouching and sidling along the wall. Around a corner walks a guard or civillian, and says to the Master Thief "how's it goin'?"

after a few hours i finally got into the bank vault to hear the message "now I know Im the master thief"
brimming with confidence i strut over to the elevator, ducking from the watchers I lean too far foward when i flip the switch, getting stuck in the little pit...only to see the master thief being crushed by the oncoming elevator
i got stuck in that hole in the floor in st. yora's, inviting the oncoming zombies....then quicksaved.
umm...backed into a haunt in inverted manse...that was more :eek:
my brother couldnt work out what fire elementals were and died like 40 times in tlc
im not a mine user so i laid one down then picked it up again

In LotP, nearby the 4th(?) floor window, I was hiding in a shadow, waiting for a lone guard to pass by. Well, he passed, and I waited for a few seconds to make sure the hall was clear, when, out of nowhere, comes the guard from where I was hiding! Explain that! I tried to run away, but I was slowly sliding towards the window. Not able to move, I just sat back and enjoyed falling 200 feet. (Weeeeeee......... SPLAT!!!!!!)

this stills happens every once in awhile... here i am walking down a lonely hall when BAM i walk right into a guard. <IMG SRC="wot.gif" border="0"> I proceed to run like a bitch but he's hot on my trail. i turn a corner and run by his buddy that i sneaked by earlier...and a few more... <IMG SRC="shake.gif" border="0"> i finally have about 8 guards chasing me with the alarm going off and hit a dead end...guess what happens next? this ever happen to anyone?

I once decided to play Bafford's again. After a few minutes I had arrived at the hole in the cellar wall. I moved towards it and expected to hear the good old "Inside at last!" when suddenly I heard myself scream and became a victim of S.H.A.S. <IMG SRC="wot.gif" border="0">
Now I always have a queasy feeling when I pass the hole :o

Ive managed to kill myself in many stupid ways;
I have stepped on my own gas mines and launched a gas arrow against a wall.
I also tried to take on too many gaurds
I think the stupidest way i died had to be the time I got killed by that ghost in the library in thief 2. <IMG SRC="shake.gif" border="0">
O i have also been flattened by an elevator too.

One funny, or terrifying actually..
I was playing Eavesdropping the first time. (on expert) I had entered the building through the other of the open towers, when that female-mechanist patrolling up there noticed me. I ran away to the ladders to climb up..
And then I heard the mechanist say someting "Karras strike thee!", or something like that. Next thing I knew Garret yell and fell down the ladders.. <IMG SRC="nono.gif" border="0">

This isn't really funny but just sort of confusing. It's been a while since I've done this so my memory might be a bit rusty, but...I was playing Assassins and I went to the kitchen where the servant is always preparing food for Ramirez. Anyway, I was in the kitchen room alone and decided to check up in the rafters to see if there was anything hidden up there. So I shot a rope arrow up there and climbed up, and as soon as I was level with the rafters I instantly died as if someone had hit me with a sword or something (based on the noise I heard). So I thought "that was weird" and reloaded, and I tried the same thing, only to end up getting killed again in the same way. I'm not sure if I ever managed to make it up there or not, and I don't have any savegames at that point so I can't test it out now. Has this happened to anyone else?
