If you had no financial limitations whatsoever, if you could even go back in time, what type of computer/setup would you acquire if you were to dedicate your computer exclusively to playing Thief games? In other words, what do you think would be the absolute ultimate Thief computer? I'd also like to hear what monitor, audio setup, etc... you think would be the best to play Thief with...

The type that can nowadays be found in garages or on the attic?

An old AMD 3000-3800 single core. This will run any thief games.

Even more so since it will probably come with 98SE preinstalled

I'm poor as dirt and I've got mine right here.
single-core Athlon 64 3200+, 1.5 GB RAM, Geforce 7600GS, Sound Blaster Live, Win2000 (the last version of Windows I actually liked). This system will even run TDS quite well.
The only thing that sucks is this LCD monitor. It just spoils any immersion when I play in the dark.
In the event that T4 turns out to be a great game, I've got this Phenom 2 X6 with 8 gigs of memory and a GTX460.

Hmm... ok so what kind of monitor would be absolutely ideal to play Thief?

Kind of a strange question, why would money be an issue with an game as old as Thief? Could probably pick up something on ebay for $30 that would do the trick.
Or - maybe you're referring to playing with some top-of-the-line audio/surround sound system, and/or possibly a jacked up triple monitor eyefinity setup.

Yes, that too, for example... :ebil:
Let's hear some details, please! Which top of the line audio/surround sound system would that be?

My last CRT was a beautiful thing. 19 inch, excellent contrast, and 1600x1200 support. In the dark, the darks were actually... well... DARK!
With any LCD, there's always this noticeable glow through out the entire screen. It spoils dark shadows. It even grows tiring on the eyes after a few hours.

This might be the most pointless thread I have even seen. Something recent, ok...but a 12.5 year old game that has had tons of love from the community by making patches and FAQs and whatnot making sure even the latest PC can play it well? You're weird.
Just pick any Athlon and a couple hundred MBs RAM and be done with it.
