I have this rig for Thief now:
AMD 3700+, 2Gb RAM, GeForce7600GT, Vortex 2 Soundcard, Win2000, Mitsubishi DPro 750SB CRT. Seems ideal for all Thieves and Dark Mod.
As a back-up machine:
AMD 2000+, 1Gb RAM, GeForce Ti4200. Good enough too.

My current system runs all 3 games fine (with ddfix for T1 and 2, and the other patches): Acer Aspire AX1800, 4gb of ram, 600gb hard drive, Nvidia Geforce 7100 (256mb) Windows 7 x64.
Before that I had a Pentium 3 that I periodically updated, and it ran T1 and 2 fine, but with ddfix (XP Pro, and an Nvidia 256mb card.). The last time I was able to run T1 and 2 on it without any patches was when I had Win 98SE on it, and an ATI Radeon 64mb video card (the only problem was that fog didn't work in T2, but otherwise it was fine).
But like Gunsmoke said, with all the fan patches available, it makes downgrading to an older system pretty pointless

Actually, I've got an LCD screen but everytime when I'm home (the 2nd one^^) I play Thief on an old PC (my parents bought it in 1999 I think) with an even older tube monitor, and it looks WAY better than on my LCD screen (although this PC has really shitty graphics so you can't even run TDP on higher resolutions and with much detail)...
Colors are simply "better", you have "real" black and everything looks... uhm.... Arrrgh, can't describe it. Simply looks better.
So, my dream PC for playing Thief would be some random pretty new one (let's say build after 2005 or so) but with a nice, old tube monitor.

Ok, so I understand old tube monitors are better for Thief than LCDs. Would older monitors be compatible with Eyefinity (as Brethren mentioned earlier)? I'm assuming Thief would be thanks to the numerous patches highlighted above...
I just found this for the dark mod and wondered how such a setup would feel with thief: (

So, in regards to the screen, what would be better between Eyefinity or a single huge 40 plus inch?
And what about plasma monitors?

One of my old computers. That was my dream computer for playing Thief, until the computer died. : (
