I'd have to say the healing one. I get hurt. I get hurt a lot. I am usually injured most of the time, so I need a good tool to keep me patched up since there are biocells everywhere. I almost always have the maximum amount which is 30.
The healing Aug is also great at keeping me alive while im fighting baddies at 4 FPS, which is...always.

Healing also works good as a rebreather and a biosuit!
My favorite would have to be silent running (hee hee) or lift heavy stuff. They don't notice this mysterious box getting closer and closer...hee hee.

Toss-up; Silent Running is dead sexy, but the spy drone is very nice, if only to get rid of those thrice-cursed maintenance bots, which I can't seem to get rid of any other way...

I'd have to say it's a 3-way tie between Power recirculator (to keep everything else running), speed enhancement (bounce like the wind! WHEE!), and vision enhancment.
Garboshnik on 12/7/2000 at 12:39
Definately the recirculator, but speed is second best. The ability to jumb between the tops of buildings in NYC and other places, then jump off without dying is just too good. Anyone care to enlighten me about why you would take silent run? (Besides being an obsessed Taffer) Seems to me the only time it would have mattered was when I wanted to run up behind a guard instead of creeping toward him. Even then, use speed aug with the crouch-walk and you have silence + speed!

Aggressive defense at level 4. Nothing is more amusing than watching a huge bot fire at you ineffectively, or a soldier blow themselves up in their hurry to chuck grenades at you.

Also, speed aug is great in one or two spots when there's this big grid of crisscrossing laser beams that release spiderbots when set off. Without the speed aug, you have to expend multitools or very carefully jump over each one, but with a level 3 or 4 speed aug, you can clear them all with one flying leap! Whee! Plus I have been able to literally run circles around military bots with level 4 speed, and with a speed aug in level 3 or 4 (and probably even level 2) and good reflexes, you have nothing to fear from enemies with gep guns or plasma rifles, unless you're in a narrow hallway with no room to jump.

I also used healing as a rebreather and biosuit, Big Brother...nice mental pic of JC perpetually choking down mouthfuls of water, as his nanites frantically oxygenate the hemoglobin in his tissue...
Speed, vision, silent running, invisibility to humans and bots, these are all good perks. The recirculator is the most useful. But on the fun scale, my favorite has to be the spy drone. At level three it is just great,it moves fast and packs a wallop! It's like a video-game within a game, as you have to get your timing down to navigate the probe to its destination before running out of juice. Does tend to get hung up on doorways, tho'.

I had no trouble at all with bots due to my spy drone, whereas my girlfriend just had to use about 20 sabot rounds to take out a military bot in Paris. She took some damage, too.

That's a good way to put it! I vote for the drone aug for number 1 with speed enhancement a close second. Gotta love the long drops that cause only a grunt, but no damage at all. I'm gonna play again on Realistic and I'll try lots of leaps after I bulk up on that aug as soon as I can, see if I can't avoid damage that way.

(mild spoiler warning)
Regeneration, Ballistic Protection, Cloak
With these three augs, you will be invincible.
Run silent? Take speed, crouch. Also, with speed you can jump higher, thus you can do a little more exploring.
Combat strength is nice, but take the Microfibular Muscles instead, this combined with the Speed/Jump will allow you to get the drop on anybody, plus get a lot of exploration bonuses.
EMP protection is next to useless unless you blunder into your own EMP grenades often (I've never been attacked by an EMP grenade, though I've picked them up).
Environment Defense (the aug that resists fire, electricity, and radiation) is next to useless, considering that you can upgrade your Environmental skill cheaply; the game will always supply you with a Hazmat suit when you need one.
I've gone through the game a few times now, bought it a week ago... seen every ending on Easy, Medium and Realistic. No difference between skill differences. I've currently managed to keep my brother alive, and Jock is not going to buy any agricultural land anytime soon. I've got it on Hard right now...
Any questions?
