Haha! Oh, I'm sure he could think of worse than that, but for Thief, TDS is bad enough, and worse than that is overkill.:laff:
In our less-than-humble opinion.;)

Achievements. (cemeth beat me to it :P)
Because if there are achievements in the game, they will be symptoms of the attitude the developers take to the game.
Of course, I hope I'm proved wrong.

The worst thing that could happen is that the game is excellent and we STILL have people moaning, complaining, giving people a bad impression about it thus causing a good game to have poor sales so that developers realise that there is no point in trying anything other than mass-market dross to make a profit.
If there are sensible and pragmatic choices in the game that allow it to be pleasing to both the hardcore fan and more casual gamers and you tards moan and moan about the compromises for the less than hardcore I swear...

No matter how excellent a game is, there will ALWAYS be some who moan, whine and complain. You'll never be able to please everyone.

I have to agree with this.
Also like many I dread the though of Thief 4 being set in a modern setting. If it is, I refuse to play it. Thief has always been about the Middle Ages/Rennaissance style with a hint of Steampunk. In fact if anything they should design new machines for Thief 4(like a steam powered mech suit or something and perhaps a sentient steam creature). Also I think they should follow the pattern of the series and this one should be all about the City Watch(or the Baron)getting all high and mighty.

Still at it?:tsktsk:
Less than hardcore? No. How about players who don't understand non-combat? How about a younger demographic than the earlier titles? Please tell me you don't want the game to be more like the common denominator of first-person
shooters... or stop the CommChat insults and actually define what you would
like to see in the game instead of constant bitching and complaining about everybody you erroneously claim are making these comments which, in fact, you
don't understand. What's the concern? Do you believe our comments really matter, or something? I've yet to hear you provide anything creative and non-boring, yet.

Stop frothing.
I think it is perfectly possible to create a game that gives enough options that people who like the stealth aspects of Thief 1 and 2 - the sneaking, the non-combat and so on (essentially people who like to play it on Expert) - can be pleased whilst at the same time providing options for people who want to be sneaky assassins.
I play Thief on Expert and I am certainly from the school of sneaking and non-combat. But that doesn't mean that I think the game should only cater to me - for a number of reasons.
1. People who play like me are not the only target audience .
2a. The company has to make a profit and in order to do that targeting a wider demographic whilst still pleasing core fans is a sensible idea.
2b. It would actually be easier to make a more generic game that is less rooted in stealth, and in addition a more "actiony" game is more likely to sell better.
Nowhere have I said that I want the game to pander to "common denominator of first-person shooters". I've had the same line all along, and in fact I've said exactly the same thing long before Thief 4 was announced. I've suggested exactly the same thing to TDM (in the members section of the forum) and I'm glad to tell you that the plan there has been to allow a flexible difficulty system.
My issue with the current behaviour on the forums is that I've never seen so much moaning and predictions of horror and threads about what people don't want. If you look at my posting history re: Thief 4 you'll see that, bar where I'm asking for people to grow up (especially about the Thi4f thing) I've said what I would like to be included in the game. What have you come up with?
Scots was right about you. What does my job have to do with this? This is about a game and if someone says something silly about their fears why should my job restrict my freedom of speech if I want to point out that something is silly? I don't see you holding your tongue.
jtr7 on 15/5/2009 at 11:37
Stop it with the ad hominem and act like a man! Frothing? You don't know me at all. Not...at...all. Telling me Scots was right shows you can never be trusted, or you really are the mean-spirited ass I keep thinking you might be, and that you only said that out of malice and don't really believe it. You are either pariah to me...or you can snap out of it. You don't "treat" people like this in real life, do you? That was my point. Do you?
I don't know what to do for you Scots-fans. If only it were possible to show you who I really am as opposed to this monster you think I am. You baffle me with your inability to comprehend and see that I'm trying to do something sorely lacking in society--give damn about others. I lack tact with people who derive pleasure from tearing people down, especially if they are adults talking like punk teenagers and hanging around in packs. :tsktsk:
EDIT: And I read your PM and responded before reading that crap you wrote. You're a liar, too. :(

i agree with subjective. not many games provide the style of play / freedom of choice I like and enjoy. I would like to have a non-combat thief game with higher difficulty to stun/avoid alerted guards (so no blackjacking from the front). But I want Thief and EM to garner enough money as well to make this genre "interesting" again for other developers as well. The best way to do this is via difficulty settings that actually MEAN something. As in: different set of AI behavior, not only hitpoints. Different amount of guards or alarms. higher alertness from them..and so on...and so on. And if somebody wants to kill everybody in the map and dangle their burned bodies from the rooftops, why not. I know a friend that played Thief2 like it was Barbarian2. Or that he got overly frustrated if he had to wait longer than 2 seconds in a shadow.
The only thing they have to do for me to get it right is stay "consistent" within the rules they set up for themselves/us, the players and deliver something in the spirit/vein of Thief that lays emphasis on the same things with the same attention to detail. Traversing the map in many different ways (floor, ledges, ropearrow-access, sewers, disguise) is very important for example.
jtr7 on 15/5/2009 at 11:58
Well, you said that better, and I agree.
