"You are going to be extremely pleased by our new rope arrows. As everybody asked for them, it was plain obvious we needed to get them right. We are extremely proud of our rope arrow code, taking advantage of hexa-core processors, delivering the horse power required to crunch the numbers involved in simulating a physically accurate rope..."
first you have to buy rope arrows, noise makers etc. as non-free DLC :D

The reason people here are "bitching and moaning" more than in other similar places is because they all LOVE thief, simple as that. Tell me there will be a half-life 3 next month and I may not even bother looking at screenshots, let alone read and post in forums about it, and I like HL very much. Thief, however, is a completely different story, and just like a loved one, even the mere talking about it makes me feel good.
Back in the day we did not simply play thief - we used to experience thief. I used to play it only in the night, with the lights off and me alone in the room with my headphones on, just like a lot of people here, and once it started, I was no longer myself, some random schmuck sitting in a chair in front of a computer. I was practically teleported into the thief world. It was I who ventured into the haunted mines to break Cutty out of cragscleft prison, it was I who explored the old lost underground city to find talismans, and it was I who hardly survived the return to the haunted cathedral. When we played thief, we looked, we listened, we explored, we searched, we stole, we hid, and we watched. We were there. That, I believe, is the "soul" of thief.
Now about 10 years have passed and I'm yet to play a game which came close to providing the level of emersion that thief did. Take a screenshot from any level in thief and most people here will probably tell you instantly where that screenshot was taken, and then they'll stare into the ceiling with a dumb smile on their face. Thief was not just another game... it was the deepest virtual experience ever, and yet you come here and say "shut up your moaning, bitches, and let them do what they want with it... so what if they add new shit to appeal to a "wider audience", like allowing you to sneak around while still allowing the wider audience "the thousands of school boys" to blast guards with steam guns with their friends?"
True, some people go overboard when expressing their concerns and even come up with nonsensical arguments and assumptions, but they have the right to. And personally I think most of the concerns sounded here are well justified, since the sequel to my all time favorite game is being developed by a new studio who wants to make "renovations to attract a wider audience" and is calling it thi4f.
And to answer the thread's question, the worst thing that could happen is to find myself playing it with the lights on while listening to music.

I agree, pav.
Hikikomori-san, as I read your comment and found myself remembering my initial experiences playing Thief, and agreeing with you again & again (& again & again...), I was reminded of a Fremen phrase from Dune by Frank Herbert: Bi-lal kaifa, which was translated as meaning "Nothing further need be said". I could not have expressed myself as well as you just did. Thank you.

p.s. Epic indeed...

I read an article about the upcoming DeusEx 3, a game series in the same category as the one we all love. The producer said: "I don't like DeusEx 1, it
just has to little action"...
Sorry... have to go... I'm... becoming... catatoni.... (Falls to the floor in a fetal position)

That Garrett is a Keeper.
taffer19 on 21/5/2009 at 02:26
If they make Thi4f exactly or very similar to Thief 3. :laff:
Oh yeah, I just though of some more nightmares!
If they replace Garrett with Zaya or the girl at the end of Thief 3 .
Garrett gives up thieving and he becomes a medieval warrior to combat evil.
