I played Thief: the dark project in 2000
Thief 3 in 2004
Thief 2 in 2008
and Thief Gold in 2009
I bought T2 and TG with Internet.
Thief 3 in a shop.
And Thief 1? The Hasard, a friend of my grandfather was used to give him videogames that he finished.
I remember the first time! I was a kid, but how I enjoyed to play it!
Although, I remember that I stop playing thief for a month when I saw a zombie the first time, another one when I met the hammerites for the first time, and a last time when I fought the Haunts for the first time! :laff:
Yes, that game shocked me three times! Fortunately, I was able to finish it after defeating my fear! :p
Today only Shalebridge Cradle afraid me a bit... But Haunts, Zombies and Hammerites nomore. :cheeky:

That I had the chance to play thief was a mere coincidence a school friend suddenly gave me a cd and said it's a present - that was 2001 I think. I played it on my very first pc and I don't have good memories about it first problem was my hardware thief didn't play fluently and the lightning was terrible I sometimes didn't saw a thing when I was in a dark place but which stopped me from playing thief were the zombies at level 2 and 3. I was so scared from these simple T1 Zombies and their sounds, even today I HATE them and don't like zombie levels. I never made it past the beginning of level 3 - I just watched the videos and was happy.
Then I bought Thief II, no stupid zombies everything and I could play my most liked game at these times (even when I just played Buffords Manision like 50 times)
I don't know when I finally played through Thief 1, definitely a few years after DS maybe 2006/7 and level 2,3 and all other zombie levels were played on easy:cheeky:
I must say thief is the one and only game that had an influence on my life, nothing big but still there are things which I have done (or did them in a special way) just because I played thief. A little example the character Daraan which I took out of a role playing story would have never existed that way if I hadn't influenced the story by thief elements. Bigger example 2011(!) I met a girl because of various independent chains of coincidences and one chain began with my friend 2001 who gave me a CD called Thief: The Dark Project. Tough I never met that girl again (I still have her number...). I still sometimes think back about that day: so many different coincidences - including a randomly acquired pc games 10 years ago - come together and point at one person. Was it fate or the biggest coincidence I ever had in my life? - Maybe only the future knows that

I can't remember, my dad played it first around the time it came out and I took to it later when I was a kid (I'm 19), but I've been watching or playing it since around release I think. I definitely remember Thief 2 not being out when I first played.
So I guess I grew up with it.
Edit: After thinking about my age then I realised when I played it T2 must have been out.

Hmm I'm not sure exactly when, probably either 1999 or 2000, since the family got its first multimedia capable (with optical drive and sound card) computer in late 1998. Then I played around with lots of game and other software demos that were available on the CDs that came with some computer-related magazine by father had been buying at the time.

I played the Thief Demo, then bought Thief Gold, in around 98/99.
Same as me. The Demo was absolutely convincing.
I must have bought T2 in 2000 but several years passed by until I discovered the Fan Missions and with that the possibility to build my own missions.
I'm not the big PC player but for me Thief has never lost its fascination over the years.

Due to my love for other LG games, notably System Shock and Terra Nova, I was a day one purchaser of The Dark Project. I knew next to nothing about the game and my first run through Bafford's was a massacre, but it all clicked 10 minutes into the next mission and I was smitten. Stealth has been my preferred approach, when offered, in games ever since.

Update: finally beat Thief Gold this past weekend for the first time.
Blackjacked my way through it for the most part - had little patience to try ghosting through "Escape!" or "Strange Bedfellows". The maw was a fun and creative level (as it was in thief 2). Surprisingly was not much of a fan of the great scavenger hunt (aka RttC). Maybe my enjoyment was spoiled by letting loose an arsenal of flash bombs and fire arrows into the haunts.
Overall an excellent experience. Favorite missions were Song of the Caverns, Mages, Lost City, Baffords, and Bonehoard. Surprisingly I enjoyed "the haunted cathedral" city streets mission quite a bit after I familiarized myself with the confusing layout. The atmosphere in that one is impeccable!

In 2009, when I read about it on RPGCodex and decided to try it because people said it was a great game. And then in 2010 I started playing fan missions... :)

I played Thief 2 before Thief 1 in 2007 probably because I didn't know about thief 1 and I didn't have it anyways but three years later in 2010 I finally got to play Thief 1: Gold and I was so excited for it:cheeky:
