I'm sorry, you'll have to be more specific. I don't have a clue as to what you're referring. Get to the top of what? Are we talking about the scene with the two trees and wall or some other place.?. I've never had this sort of problem in the over 20 years of playing Thief.

This is one of my favorite FM's too, some nice designs, I still have to beat the last 2 levels since my playthrough when this was released. I remember the map being confusing & having to resort to the forum for some answers. Overall a very good starters FM. Edit - Oh yeah, the scripted fright scenes were done very well, as much as I hate them. +1 for those.

You'll have to forgive me, it's been a few years since I played this. But in the caves, if my memory serves, there is one large cave with a bridge going over it, crossing between two high, wide ledges. There is a large spider patrolling that bridge. On the cave floor below, there is a fire with two guards standing next to it. One of the guards has the exit key. Nearby, there is a wooden structure and under it, on the wall, there is a metal panel with a lock behind it. That is where you use the key. There is also an opening in the wall of that large cave (opposite the wooden structure) that leads to a smaller, round cave that has a grate over the top. That grate opens when you use the exit key.

Thanks. That's my problem. Can you remember how you got to that location? I have not found it yet. And yes, I've been all over the burning hut and found nothing.

Okay, now it makes sense. Unfortunately, the field blocking the wooden cave entrance remains in place. I have read the secret of Father joe and Maureen. So do I have to start over or is there something else I missed?

Started the level again and had the same result. The field in that wooded cave entrance just will not disappear. Am I again looking at the wrong place, or is this a bug and I just won't be able to finish this one?

If I remember correctly, the barrier should drop when you read that note. If it didn't, I'm not sure what to suggest. Perhaps reload an earlier save and try again. Or restart the mission and try again. Are you playing with New Dark? I don't know if that would matter or not. It sounds like a scripting error. If you can't get it to work, let me know and I'll see what I can find out.
Edit: I didn't see your last post before posting this. So you've already tried those things. You can send me a save game from that point and I can send it back past the barrier.

I restarted from the end of mission 3 and got the same result. No wonder I was getting nowhere. LOL I am playing with new dark and the stand-alone version of dark mod. Looks like it's a script error. after all.
