I think I do remember the table you're thinking of maga because it confused me for a long time and I had real trouble finding the right table. Persevere! I'll see if I can find a screenshot of the right place.
OK, I've found the right place so I'm just organising the directions.
Can you just confirm you went up the ladder and into a room with 1 barrel and the broken/upside down table?

If you've got up the ladder, these are the directions from that room. With your back to the broken table walk forward through the doorway, turn left into room with 3 barrels and walk forward into the next room with 2 openings on the right. You want the 2nd opening. You can see the candle from where you're standing.
Let me know if you haven't found the right door in Sewer A to the ladder.
