Reading between the lines, that is.
For example, say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS". Never say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGOs"I realise they feel strongly, but I'm not sure the shouting is necessary, LEGO.
I've come to the conclusion I don't really care any more. I do however, want one of these.

I don't like Lego with made to fit pierces. Thats one step away from just buying a model IMHO. Isn't the point of Lego building and making stuff?
I remember some amazing creations friends and I built from boxes of mixed bits. We'd sit down with a plan each and just build away. It was kind of a secret completion and involved a lot of imagination.

AWww maaaan, this thread just resparked a major part of my childhood! When I was a kid I used to love the medieval series, had a whole bunch of castles and armies posing on top of all my wardrobes!

And those horse knights, with the ornated horse armors (I didn't have to pay extra for) ooh man, they were creme de la crop of all knights!

The chests were open-able and came filled with those tiny 1-bit round pieces in different half-translucent colors - GEMS!
I loved the "special" stuff too like the Merlin wizard (which had a glow-in-the-dark wand) and the green dragon:

It was like my own cheap version of Warhammer. And How could you NOT do that, look how customizable your "armies" are:

It had that whole "pirates vs. colonials" theme going on, cannons you could shoot pieces from by pulling a spring from the back, a parrot and monkey, even a shark and a crocodile!

I didn't like the special purpose pieces either. When I started with Lego, I used to enjoy building each kit once going by the image on the box and without reading the instructions, as a little challenge. Then I'd tear it down and the parts would go into my big box of Lego for creative use. As I got older, building the kits by image was no longer a challenge, so the parts would just go straight from the package into my big box. As time went on, it seemed like the Lego kits became more and more like models and I ended up with more and more special purpose parts that rarely got used.
Did anybody else have Capsela? That was fun for a while too, although there was only so many things you could really do with it. I wish Mindstorms had been around in my day.
BTW, have you seen the prices on the Star Wars LEGO sets? :eek:

See, those escape boats in the ship set are exactly what I'm talking about. That's not Lego, that's just a toy. And it's bullshit.
