My first experience went a little like this:
I was about 8 years old and my uncle somehow got the game Thief: The Dark Project and since he didn't play with computer games, he gave it to me and my brother. It came in the triangular game box and everything! I remember seeing a picture of a haunt with a sword and that freaked me out. But now it's all lost... :( It would've been a valuable collectible...
Anyway, when we finally got the game to work on our Windows 98, the first thing I remembered was the servant walking into Lord Baffords's manor and thinking he was an alien creature.
I also remembered how I use to imitate the three guards' conversation about the bear pits. :D
And of course the music when I got into Lord Bafford's Manor was quite frightening for me back then.

I was firmly entrenched and on the last leg of Might and Magic VI: The Mandate Of Heaven, when Thief was released. My little brother bought it release day, and I watched him play it that night. Needless to say, I finished up MM6 as fast as I could. :ebil:

whaaa?
was it a Voodoo graphics card? (see my above post)
No. It was a ATI RADEON the 128 I think.

I was given The Dark Project by a Uni friend, who picked up a few things from a primary school clearout. This was probably back in 2003-4, so pretty late for me.
But once I completed it, I was hooked, and bought the other two (plus Gold). Now I'm so hooked *AGAIN* after a few years, I'm creating a Garrett cosplay. :D

It was 1999. First, I played the TDP demo version for the 1st time, then my brother bought it for me when he returned from aussie :D

I got Thief 2 as part of a software package included with a Sound Blaster 512, around 2001. Never played it until I read a piece in PC Gamer later that year about a UT mod "Thievery UT" which sounded pretty compelling. I played and had lots of fun with TUT, and then I remembered I actually owned the game it was inspired by, so I installed it and tried it out (thankfully, this was when the game was still fairly straight forward to get working). Hook, line, sinker.

I saw it first when they were showing a walkthrough of it on TV. I actually thought it was a little boring :bored: compared to Half Life walkthrough they showed previously, because there's no shootouts and aliens. I liked the castle athmosphere and hidden bookcase switches though.
After a while I completed Half Life and then my dad brought in Thief from his work, I was super excited to play the game they showed on tv :cheeky: and it turned out to be phenomenal!

I think it was back in 98 or early 99 when I saw some screenies of Thief The Dark Project in an issue of Computer Gaming World. I fondly remember seeing a screenshot of that infamous two-headed ogre that never seemed to make it into the game. It had a description on what the game was going to be about such as exploring and thieving ancients ruins, castles, etc. Well, I got hooked in and kept on eye on the release date. I think I ended up ordering it from Electronics Boutique.

I had a friend who gave me a demo of the TDP. After being enthralled from one demo, I bought this full version of TDP. I remember thinking the box for the game was really weird but cool. Ever since then (1998) I have always come back to play this game, no matter how long the absence. :D
