I just few days ago remembered one specific chant that i have heard in past few weeks but when i have looked it from hammer/mechanist missions, i haven't find it. I have played Thief 1-3 so i cannot say in what game did i hear it. I though it would be easy to find, even maybe it will be only heard in certain part of the certain mission.
It is constant Chorus with some kind of metallic effect so it could be related to Mechanists. Its not in the Thief Soundtrack, at least not in what i found. I have checked this site too: (
http://thief-thedarksite.8m.com/sanctum/index.html#onload). The chanting is not that regular(?) deep echo sound but perhaps more thin and "here".

Wow, that eliminates most of it, especially the ones that spring immediately to mind. Hmmm.... I hope you have the game discs, if not the games themselves installed.
In Cragscelft, we have the me1.wav, me2.wav, me3p.wav.
In Undercover and Life of the Party we have singing1.wav, singing2.wav, singing3.wav, singing4.wav, singing5.wav.
In Life of the Party and Casing the Joint/Masks there is gregfull.wav.
There's voceerie.wav, diffuse.wav, and howltxta.wav, but these aren't what you describe. Same with voxloop.wav, and voxloop2.wav. Then there are also the intense, "2001: A Space Odyssey"-like aahs1.wav, aahs2.wav, aahs3.wav, eees1.wav, eees2.wav, eees3.wav, L14wail1.wav, L14wail2.wav, L14wail3.wav, L14wail4.wav, wingedF.wav, wingedM.wav, which aren't what you describe, but may help jog the memory more, but really just flesh-out the list. :p

I think he means the chantlo.wav, which is heard in Cragscleft Prison, more specific: the barracks. It's a bit hard to remember because it's heard only once in Thief 1/Gold only.

That's the most prominent one. That's the one that springs immediately to mind, with a Thief-defining strong presence at the end of the INTRO.AVI, and it's low and echo-y, all of which is why it was not included at the top of the list, but then, we don't know exactly what's missing in the recollection. I forgot to include it on the list at all, too, so thanks.:)

Now i have roughly checked the sounds from TG, TMA and T2X (which i forgot to mention). I played TDS first three missions a little- haven't bother to play that further. Closest is that gregfull.wav. I almost felt that this is it when i heard it just. Now i have almost lost touch for memory of that sound, i wonder that was only my imagination. Just few days ago i felt that strongly and that i could find it from Thief anytime i want.
It's really quite opposite to most of the sounds in Thief which are mystical and dark. This sounds is bright and more peacefull and it may have slight distortion in it. I skipped most of the speeches and different variations of effects with same kind of name so i haven't checked all of them, it would take more time.

If you like chants, check the Hammer Mission Development Kit, in which I voiced a "Hammer 7" character whose Alert0 lines are song-type chants from the Hammer Book of Tenets. The HMDK demo mission uses him. I made the voice set because it seemed odd to me that a religion, even one as strict as the Order of the Hammer, would not employ music.
